Usual for movement to stop? 21 weeks

I'm 21 weeks and for the last week or two have been feeling squirms and wriggles but nothing at all the last two days.

My placenta is at the back so no worries there. I've done the usual cold drinks thing and nothing.

I'm a bit of a worrier generally, not helped by me needing to have another scan on Monday with the consultant due to a odd sack of fluid they're querying could be a renal scan.

Someone reassure me that for baby to go quiet for a few days at this stage is normal, please.

Please go to the hospital too have this checked out.

pollywollywoowah · 08/12/2012 06:56

You need to go to hospital and get monitored for a while to make sure baby is ok. It's probably just having a quiet spell but you need to be sure.

ZuleikaD · 08/12/2012 06:59

Yes, get it checked out.

Sassee · 08/12/2012 07:09

Thanks.

Advice from the hospital is phone the midwife at 8.30 and see if I can get seen by her to try and find the heartbeat. So 1 hour 20 to kill.

Hope everything is ok op. Try not to worry.

Hi Sassee
I had a quiet baby too, movement used to stop. She's now 15.
Holding your hand whilst waiting.
Best wishes

Hi Sassee

Have you got the number for your local assesment unit? It's usually seperate to the delivery suite/birthing centre.

I practically visited the assesment unit every week with DD Grin. But I am glad I did, because she was fine right up to a couple of days before my due date. My midwife measured my bump and it had dropped off the chart a bit. She thought it was due to DD's head engaging. A couple of days later I wasn't happy with DD's movement. So they put me on the monitor and once again she started kicking like mad Smile. However they wanted to double check her, so sent me for a scan. It turns out her growth had started to slow; and they wanted to induce me that morning, and I was at the top of the list of 4 inductions they felt needed doing Shock

So what I am trying to say after waffling is always trust your instincts, and don't accept that it's ok to wait.

Fx all is ok. 20 weeks is early to feel lots of movement, but it's still a worry

I sometimes couldn't feel my DS because he went back to back. They found it hard to find his heatbeat when he was snuggled into my spine too.

I would ALWAYS advise getting reduced movements checked out though. Hope everything is fine OP.

MasterOfBuggerAll · 08/12/2012 07:32

Oh and I'm a worrier too. I find its easier now DD is here, because I can see her.

Sassee · 08/12/2012 07:36

It was the local assessment unit who have advised me to call the midwife.

Thanks for the support.

Renal scan should read renal cyst, obviously!

Dd (now7) had the same thing from about 20 weeks - it seemed like she just kept dropping off to sleep for a few days during the second half of pregnancy. I was on the monitor thing for hours every week or so and spent the second half of my pregnancy in a state of quiet burbling worry!

Dd is absolutely fine, but it does need checked out and I was sent to the assessment unit every time.

hopefully MW will get you sorted and reassured this morning.

I'm seeing the community midwife at 11.30. I'm going to her to save me waiting in all day.

Fingers crossed

I was going to say get checked out just in case, but I'm now almost 21 weeks and felt movements early, proper kicks at about 15 weeks. The past week or so my baby stays quiet and didn't feel it for a whole day. I got worried and was trying to make it move, until the next morning I felt movement again. I think baby was just having a sleep day.

glossyflower · 08/12/2012 11:47

Let us know how you get on xxx

looneytune · 08/12/2012 12:48

Thinking of you, hope midwife was able to put your mind at rest

Sassee · 08/12/2012 12:53

Baby's heartbeat was good and strong, took a while for her to find him. Seemed he'd dropped down a bit hence the lack of movement for me.

Phew, now off to sort out three chickens we've just inherited.

Thanks all for your support, I'll try and stop worrying about everything.
