A question for those who have taken blood thinners (fragmin & aspirin or similar) in pregnancy

Hello,
I am 25 weeks pregnant and on aspirin and fragmin daily (history of recurrent mc). I am panicking a bit about coming off these drugs. I have my next consultant app at 30 weeks but I think they are planning on taking me off the blood thinners at 33 weeks. Is this normal? I would be keen to stay on them (despite nasty bruising!) for as long as possible to reduce any blood clot issues with the placenta.
Would be great to hear from anyone with experience of taking these drugs in pregnancy as I can't find much guidance via google.

Hi Jemina, I am 31 weeks PG today and have been on Fragmin since 4 weeks taking daily due to previous MC's and tests done after that showing low protein in blood. I do recall my consultant saying at around 15 weeks that they may decide to take me off the Fragmin at 20 weeks because of the cost of the injections (he said around £5 each) but he did say that they would only do that if it was absolutely safe to do so for both me and baby. They have not said anything about taking me off it since but I am now booked in for a c section so I don't know if that has anything to so with it as I know you have a higher risk of blood clotting after a major op and because of this they have told me I need to carry on taking the injections until 6 weeks after.

I am sure that if they have identified you need it in the first place then they would not take you off it unless it was absolutely safe to do so. Have you asked why they want to take you off it?

I'm on clexane - anti clot - and 75mg aspirin daily for 12weeks under doctors orders. I'm sure doctors will listen & advise you if your concerned Smile

My SIL was on fragmin and aspirin due to lupus and Hughes syndrome. She had it from 4 weeks pg to 6 weeks after her CS and was told absolutely under no circumstances should she stop it, to the point that my brother went ape at the surgery when they botched up a prescription order for her and she missed one day. My nephew is perfect btw. It was a different condition but I would question your consultant very carefully as to what measures would indicate you coming off it. My understanding was that clotting could affect the placenta at any time in pg. Hope it goes well x

Thank you all for responding. I will properly question the consultant at my 30 week appointment and get a second opinion if needs be.

I took 75mg aspirin during my pregnancy and was told to stop at 33 weeks. The consultant and MW checked at every subsequent appointment that I had stopped taking it. All fine here, my boy is now 4 weeks old! Hth and good luck with the rest of you pg OP!

I've been taking 75mg of aspirin every day in this pregnancy (DC2) to try to reduce the risk of getting pre-eclampsia again. I've been told to stop taking it at 36 weeks.

From these replies I'm guessing it totally depends on why you're taking them.
