Gap maternity sizing?

Does anyone know if gap maternity clothes tend to come up big or small? I'm normally a 10-12, am only 10+4 but have my eye on a skirt in the sale. Only problem is the sizes correspond with 8-10 or 12-14. I haven't put on any weight so far due to nausea but know this will change?

Any suggestions on whether to go bigger or smaller? I don't really want to get both and then know I have to return (at least) one!

I bought a maternity skirt in a 12-14 and I'm usually an 8 I would say its a little big but its comfy :).
I only got the bigger size as they had none left in my size.

Great, thank you! I'll be due in July so am thinking looser is going to be better in case it's hot.

Contrary opinions would be welcome!

I'm a pre-preg 10 at Gap. I just bought two pairs of cords, one in a 10 and one in a 12, because one pair (the ones I got in a 12) felt a bit snug in the shop. However, like much of Gap's stuff, they stretched out a bit immediately and now they're really annoying (I have to hike them up all the time) so I wish I'd got them in a 10. Unless I put on hods more weight in my hips or thighs, the size 10 pair should fit throughout I think...

I got a jumper in XS, as I loved it and it was in the sale. I'm a size 8 normally. It fitted perfectly throughout my last pregnancy. To go against the grain of what others have said- I find their sizes come up quite big.

MincePiesAndBaileys · 07/12/2012 12:43

I would say they come up slightly big too.

VickyU · 07/12/2012 13:07

They are American sizes. So jeans in a 6 are actually a UK 10 although they do come up quite big.

CityDweller · 07/12/2012 17:21

Vicky they british-ise the sizes in the Gap (online and in-store here). So while a US 6 is a UK 10, it'll say '10' for a UK 10 on the label over here.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 07/12/2012 17:42

I'm a size 16-18 everywhere else and gap Xl is just right.

VickyU · 07/12/2012 17:55

OK sorry must have got that wrong but if they are British sizes then I would say they come up huge! I am a UK10 - 12 in jeans and just bought a pair of size 6 Gap maternity jeans (thinking it was the American size) and they fit perfectly!

CityDweller · 07/12/2012 18:35

Did you buy them from ebay or 2nd hand elsewhere (in which case they might have been ones from the US)? I am consistently a 6 in Gap in the US and a 10 in Gap UK.

worsestershiresauce · 07/12/2012 19:27

I've just ordered some tops and they are huge. Size down.

TTCmay · 07/12/2012 20:46

I am 10 weeks and Similarly 10-12 normally. I just bought mediums from gap (12-14) - 3 long sleeved tops and one wool jumper. Far too big for me right now, but I Have no doubt they will begin to fit well in January. This is my second dc and I remember going thru various waves of clothes as i got bigger and bigger!!

sayanything · 07/12/2012 21:10

I think they come out big too. I gained shedloads of weight in my pregnancy and I still fit a size 6 (US).

Snowflakepie · 07/12/2012 23:07

I would size down, they always stretch loads. If its under bump style then I didn't find much changed size wise it was just the cut and stretchy waist that was needed. By 36 weeks everything was bloody uncomfy anyway, maternity clothes are officially a nightmare!
