has anyone tested negative but in fact been pregnant??

Hi, just wondered if this has happened to anyone, i have just had a failed cycle of ivf, the heavy period i was supposed to get was just brown spotting and very light and i feel quite poorly at times.
I'm feeling sick on and off, go from being really hungry to just not wanting to eat, stomach cramps and bubbly feeling and also an upset tum. I know in my heart i don't feel right and i'm definately not stressed (after the first neg test we had got used to the idea it hadn't worked) but have tested twice now and all said negative. The tests don't lie do they??? Or has anyone had to just keep testing?? Xx

I dont want to get your hopes up too much, but with both of mine I tested when AF was a few days late and got negatives, didnt get a positive until I was over a week late with both.

It is possible that you are just testing too early. I don't want to give you false hope though.

I have never had IVF and don't know what effects it can have on your body. Is it possible that these symptoms are a side effect of the IVF?

If you still think you are pregnant I would advise to wait at least 2 more weeks (a long wait I know) and then test again with a morning urine sample, using one of the early pregnancy tests.

I got a negative first month, and a bleed, hence had no clue I was pregnant. Again, I don't want to get your hopes up as I have no experience of IVF and the effects this may have on your hormone levels.

Again, I know nothing about IVF but I had -ve tests and a bleed when according to dates I must have been pregnant, so it does happen.

I did a test on a Friday afternoon with a clearblue digi and it said not pregnant, then on the Tuesday morning I had this urge to pee on a stick so I did another clearblue digi and straight away it came up 3+ weeks pregnant!! what tests are you using? are you doing it with your morning wee? don't know if that actually make a difference but seemed to with me x

Well, i didn't get any horrible side effects with ivf, i actually felt ok while i was going thru it. I can honestly say i feel worse now. I'm not getting my hopes up either, we were naturally disappointed but after being told to wait for my period i thought 'oh well it gives us another fews months to try to do it on our own'. But now as times gone on, i didn't get a proper bleed and i just feel very odd and weird at times. I know it sounds strange but part of me just knows in my heart i could be but the other part just thinks i may be losing it x

Amelia, i used the test the clinic gave me the first time which was just a hcg test and then yesterday i used clear blue, first wee of the day. If i was i'd be 3-4wks which would show by now surely x

i had 3-ves before a +ve this pregnancy

to be fair 2 of those tests were before my period was due BUT i'd tested +ve at the same point in my previous pregnancy.

I got my 3rd -ve the day after my period was due, and finally got a +ve when i was 5 days late

I tested negative for about a week and a half after af was due and then got a positive on a clearblue digi. With first dc I tested positive day af was due. Could be that your hormone levels aren't high enough to register.id wait a week (awful I know!) and try again. Have everything crossed it worked this time :)

I had three negative tests with my first child and diidnt get a positive (very faint) unyil period was about 9 days late.

I tested negative with FMUrine before my period was due, and then got a positive the day it was due.

Its all a bit strange, i think if i was i'd be 1 to 2 wks late which should show up by now i would've thought x

I haven't had IVF, so don't know how that affects things, but I didn't get a +ve with DD1 til 6+ weeks. With DD2 it was just over 4 weeks in theory, but I knew I was further gone than that to have got the +ve and the scan showed I was another week on and had conceived v early in my cycle. For some reason my body doesn't do early tests . And it might be a complete coincidence, but I've never had a +ve with a clearblue digital, always the 'old fashioned' sticks that have 2 lines. thankyou :) After 5 yrs of trying i'm not one to obsess over symptoms and i'm very lucky in that i rarely get ill but i go from feeling so great one minute to like someones flicked a switch and feel awful...i'll keep you all updated xx

I would try a first response as they are more accurate than clear blue digital for example. They require less hcg to give you a positive.

This time round I tested with sensative test day before af due got a negative, tested again 3 days later to get a very very faint posative xx

I was on Clomid and tested negative on the days the nurse at the clinic told me to test. Was just about to start taking my next round of treatment when I tested again and got a positive. 17 weeks pg now. So it does happen. I put my initial negative down to my totally crazy menstrual cycle.

I've never had ivf but my ds doesn't exist according to clear blue, first response and the dr. Finally got a bfp on a tesco own test, scan the next week confirmed I was 12wks.

Oh he's 5.4yo now and definatly real!

Sorry you're going through this. Why not ask the clinic or your gp to do a blood test. Then you'll know for sure. Tbh I suspect a negative at this stage is a real negative, pg tests are so sensitive now. Sorry.
