Waters breaking?

I'm 39 weeks and have been having gripey pains for the last couple of weeks. I had a show last week and this morning when I sat up in bed a load of fluid came out of me. (Kinda the size if a panty liner on the bed IYSWIM) I went for a wee and have put a pad on to see if there is any more. I don't think I have pissed myself! It doesn't smell like wee either (way tmi) what now? I'll wait to see if I get any more on the pad then phone Mw. Should I be doing anything?

Make a note of the time you lost the first bit of fluid and if there is more phone the labour ward for advise. Some hospitals like you to be in established labour within a certain amount of time, after you waters break.

Midwife sniffed mine (I was rather mortified by this) and said that amniotic fluid usually smells sweet. They also like to check that fluid is clear. If not it can mean you are developing an infection or baby is in distress.

You should hopefully have your baby in your arms by tomorrow.Smile

I phoned the labour ward, they want me to go in so they can monitor baby for a bit. I guess they will examine me too. She said that they would probably send me home and ask me to go in tomorrow for an induction!!!! (Assuming it was my waters) if nothing has happened eeeek scared now

good luck Smile

remember you dont have to accept the induction they offer you if you dont want to. many hospitals have a 48 hour policy, it depends where you live, and so long as you dont go swimming / have a bath / have any internals the chance of infection (which is why they are worrying and want baby out) is very very slim.

Do keep a close eye on your temperature though, as if that rises that can be a sign there is a problem.

Obviously what you do is up to you, and it seems like you will be meeting your baby very soon anyway Smile

Still in hospital, waiting for an examination to see whether it was my waters or I just peed myself and didn't realise! If it was waters they say they will put me on IV antibiotics and induce me tomorrow if no action. Fed up with waiting, and I'm gonna feel really silly if its just pee as there hasn't been much really since this morning.
