what tops did you wear for bf?

I am overdue and have finally got around to looking at nursing tops on the internet now I am on ML. However, all the ones I have seen have been really frumpy and not very nice or too expensive. I am not going to spend £30 plus on one top. Or they have been short sleeved and very summery, I am a cold person and like to be wrapped up warm.

So I was wondering what everyone else did? where can I find fashionable, reasonably priced, practical and flattering nursing tops. Or if you didn't use nursing tops what did you do instead?

I had a few striped or plain ones from H&M that weren't too expensive. But then I discovered that the best option was to wear a vest top under any tool I already had. I would the. Pull the vest top down, unclip feeding bra and pull normal top up. That meant that there was no wobbly tummy on show or too much boob either! Also much cheaper to buy load of vest tops.

I bought proper breastfeeding tops last time. This time I'll either be doing vest top with a cardigan, or wrap style tops. Nothing specifically breastfeeding as they're usually ugly and overpriced!

Debenhams have some lovely wrap tops in the sale at the mo.

17 days in and i live in shirts with a vest underneath. Undo two buttons, vest and bra cup down and we're away.

Invest in a couple of really good nursing bras, decent support is invaluable!

Three months in I wear a vest top under my normal top. Works fine. The vests are a but stretched now but gor three quid a piece from asda I'm not complaining.

Yes...vest top with stretchy straps (primark) underneath regular tops, works a treat and gives you confidence b/feeding in public as there really is nothing at all on show.

vests and layers.
sleeveless vests from H&M with double foldover layer on top, then cardigan over the top. Or just a regular t.shirt to pull up with muslin across tummy - it exposes your tummy from the side so I used layers. I also wore my bump band to cover my tummy if pulling up a top.

Yes vest tops, I preffered the ones witb drop clip so I could wear them by themselvs with a cardigan or under neath other stuff. Mothercare have nice longline ones which I liked a little better, but quite pricey at £15 but they are similar to what I would normally wear so didnt mind paying the extra.
I still have all the nursing vests from first time around (well im still feeding just but I dont want to strech them with my bump) so worth the money.

Also it depends on your style before dc, I would'nt have been able to fit in and pull up some of my previous clothes for a while without ruining them, as I wear a lot of tightish slim fitting tops normally, so it was 6 months before I could do that and then it was summer. So didnt want two layers.

Just found out I am pg again and they're back out to help hide my bump for as long as possible!

I am sure that they were extra long...got a size 12 and I am normally a 10...

I lived in normal t-shirts with vests underneath. Lift t-shirt up over boobs, drop down vest below one boob, unclip bra and feed. I could quite easily just pop my nipple out for DS to latch on with nobody knowing I was feeding. I had a whole conversation with my brother whilst at a family do and only at the end of the feed did he notice I had been breastfeeding - love stealth feeding!

After 17 months of breastfeeding I can get my boobs out of anything

Cami top underneath n anything I wanted over the top. Matalan did the best ones they were only £3

I also found the best way, esp. when BF in public, was to wear a normal top/ jumper (not too fitted, something with a bit of give as you need to fit baby under there) and wear a BF cami or even a normal cami underneath. You can then just unclip BF bra and pull cami down or unclip if a BF one and then just position baby under your jumper. At first when you are getting used to it you might need to pull jumper up a bit to see where baby's head is going and make sure he is latched on correctly but once both you and baby get used to it you can just direct baby's head in right direction and he will just latch on v easily. A v neck jumper/ top is also a bit easier as means you have see down to baby to help position him to latch on but still cover yourself up to others.

You do get less bothered about BF in public but there are certain situations where its useful to be able to discretely BF. For example, I used to visit my dad who used to go to a church afternoon dinner and would always need to BF during the dinner. It was useful to be able to discretely BF in front of my dad whilst being able to eat at the same time.

Vest tops from H&M are really cheap and keep their shape well. Just wear them under your normal top. To feed lift top up and pull vest top down a bit (just enough for boob to come out the top). Its really dsicreet and you won't have anything on show.

I'm currently sat in Sainsburys cafe feeding. I'm wearing a grey vest, flowery shirt, sling and purple fluffy cardi. No one gives a shiny shite, and the place is full of elderly gents!

Hi all. Thanks for replies. I got a few best tops and loose jumpers last night on the internet whilst on all fours trying to encourage labour.

I agree with you, nursing tops ming! especially those ones with the kind of hangy short top bit over the long bit!

I just layered, so one layer up and one layer down so tummy and top of boobs were covered

Should read best tops. Got jumpers/tee-shirts from link to zara from above. They had other jumpers too. Also got drapey cardigan and a shirt.

Bloody predicted text. Vest tops that is. Still looking for v neck jumpers or long tops to wear with leggings though.

Vest tops, baggy tops, shirts, wrap tops - and a muslin to hand every time!

One thing - sometimes when feeding baby pulls off without warning whilst your flow is in full squirt - milk goes everywhere!! Have a muslin (or dry breast pad) to hand to catch any squirters!! I wasn't warned about this before I had my son, and I got caught out a few times - even squirted DH in the face once! Funny if you are comfortable (and people with you aren't embarrassed) but my poor dad didn't know where to look!!! You soon get used to avoiding wet patches! Loved breastfeeding, despite the fiddly bits!

Jojomaman had some nice stuff - wrap tops were good, with vest underneath to hide fleshy bits. Seraphine too if you want a few really nice pieces.
