Anyone got a nice, not-too-expensive party dress?

I'm fed up now of my leggings-and-tunic uniform, and want a nice dress for the (two) Christmas parties I'm going to. I was going to wear a nice top with black trousers, but my trousers are the ones I wear for work and as one of the parties is my work do I don't want to feel I'm dressed for the bloody office! So I'm after a nice going-out maternity dress, but as it will probably only be worn twice (and this is dc2 and is DEFINITELY going to be my last baby so there are no future pregnancies to save it for) and I'm skint anyway I don't want to spend ££. Anyone got anything that'll fit the bill? I'm size 10, quite good legs so I don't mind something short not that anyone notices with a bump like the side of a house though

Have you looked at ASOS, New Look and Top Shop? They have some quite reasonable dresses at the moment.

Get a stretchy wrap dress you can wear after baby arrives. I got a normal phase eight one in the sale that I'm planning on wearing to a wedding (if we make it), and also to her christening. It fits now, and will fit after as well!

I don't think that will work sadly as bump is so huge it pulls even stretchy dresses out of shape! I have experimented with non-maternity stretchy dresses from pre-preg and it's not a good look for me, sadly. Have just seen a nice one on topshop though so think I'm going to go for that Smile

I got a nice flattering number on eBay for about £12. Loads on there. Also ASOS and H&M are worth a look.

lookingfoxy · 05/12/2012 22:36

Ebay?

MincePiesAndBaileys · 05/12/2012 23:02

Loads on eBay, some brand new Asos ones too.....

damnitdamnit · 06/12/2012 07:21

Oh I have a few (unusual for me) I found m&s had a lot and ASOS too.

damnitdamnit · 06/12/2012 07:23

M&S ones we there stretchy type normal ones but ASOS had maternity ones and lots to choose from.

ohfunnyface · 06/12/2012 07:28

I have two! Both from topshop. I'm a social little thing so it's nice to have a choice!

One short black lace and beige/nude number- very tight, but I like the way it shows off my bum and legs!! Until I turn round...

Then a floaty cool dress, just gone in the sale actually! White with flowers, short at the front and long at the back.

I've also got a lovely black stretchy tube skirt (also topshop) that I can dress up with a nice top.

It is so nice to have a bit of choice after wearing leggings/long tops/work dresses all the time.

ASOS seem to have a great maternity range! I try to avoid the site or I have no money!!

Ameliac28 · 06/12/2012 09:12

ASOS have some lovely maternity dresses and most of them are in the sale at the moment, I've got my xmas party this weekend, a wedding and a dinner with my DH rugby I brought 2 dresses one from primark which as you can imagine was nice and cheap and the other one from ASOS I will just wear one of them twice. The one from ASOS I could probably get away with wearing again once the baby is hear it's really pretty, have a look x

CityDweller · 06/12/2012 09:26

I got this lbd from Next. It is as flattering as all the reviews say! It's not the most fashion-forward silhouette, but I can wear it to all my Xmas parties/ dos with heels and accessories and then wear it to work with boots and cardis, so I'll get lots of wear out of it. Sizing comes up roomy (I was pre-preg 10/12 and a 10 is plenty big enough)

joby21 · 06/12/2012 09:32

I got a plain black one from new look for £16. It is in their maternity range.

redwellybluewelly · 06/12/2012 19:12

I'm trying to find dresses to disguise bump so nothing tight, I'm tall and slim and bump as yet (13 weeks) isn't obvious. I'll be 15/16weeks over the party season and we aren't telling until 20week tests come back clear.

Off to search asos

I got a black, slightly sparkly but very stretchy dress from Primark for £16. I plan to wear it to my work Christmas do and on Christmas Day. I'm kind of hoping it'll snap back into shape so I can wear it after I'm pregnant too!
