nearly 37 weeks and baby is breech, can anyone tell me about turning babies

I have just had a midwife appointment at 36+4 and the baby is totally the wrong way, I can feel the babies head at the top and move it around. Anyway, now got a scan for Friday which is 37 weeks. If it is still breech I would be happy with a section but know nothing about turning babies. Can anyone share their experiences, how do they do it, does it work, does it hurt etc.

Have you looked into optimal foetal positioning? I think there is a website called spinning babies. Sure a web search would bring up some info for things you can do to help get the baby into the right position. Am sure someone with better advice will be along soon!

I sat on a exercise ball and bounced a it but it didn't work and I was booked in for a section, then baby decided to come even earlier and I had a section an hour after arriving at hospital. All was fine, his little legs were up by his ears for a few days though!

Thanks hermione, did they offer to try and turn it? I wanted a section at the outset so seem to have gone full circle after being told that I didn't need a repeat one.

He stayed the right way round and I had a normal birth a month later.

I had an ecv, for me it was worth a try as I was far more terrified of the prospect of an elcs than giving birth. It was uncomfortable and I couldn't believe how hard they pressed, but I could have stopped it at any time if it got too much. Anyway, it didn't work (nor did all the other crazy things I tried to turn her) as she was well stuck. I ended up with the dreaded elcs, the thought of it was far worse than the reality and we were both ok, but I'm really hoping next baby is the right way up as I spent weeks stressing before dd was born. Good luck whatever happens.

Hi pmgkt, I'm in a similar position, but only 34+3. Saw my MW on Monday and she advised bouncing on birthing ball and/or getting on all fours and rocking to encourage the baby to turn. If that fails, I will opt for an ECV, I think, as I'd prefer to avoid a CS.

Hello I had an ecv at 38 weeks in october I was terrified of having it from what I had read and have to say it wasn't too bad it was uncomfortable felt like the dr was digging her nails in my skin but by the time I told her to stop the procedure was over it took about 2 mins if that and it was succesful! My baby stayed the right way too! Even though it wasn't pleasant I would probably have it again if muy baby was breach. Hope this helps! X

I was breach at 36 wks I think, and was going to have ECV. But I did a bit of research and tried a few exercises. The one I think worked for me was lying on my back on the bed (the wrong way round), and draping my legs over the headboard and lifting my bottom up as high as possible. You can also try this by climbing your legs up the wall, although I found this too difficult. I did this a few times, and that evening in bed I literally felt the baby do a somersalt. It felt very weird but I was very relieved!

Yes they did offer to try and turn baby but I didn't want the procedure. I am happy with how things turned out and baby is healthy and I recovered well, the delivery was wonderful.

I've been admitted as it has an unstable lie and too much fluid so no point trying to turn as it is turning itself right around anyway. Did 2 full turns during one scan. I'll be a section but have to stay in til then cos if my waters break im , well baby is in big trouble
