Hi I just found out I am pregnant and am determined not to smoke!
However I am already going slightly crazy, was wondering if anyone used an electric cigarette? I've had a look online but it's all conflicting advice! I will be seeing my doctor tomo but I need something to get me through today!

I'm not sure, I think probably even a doctor would be cautious. That said, they can give you nicotine replacement stuff, so definitely tell them and keep them updated.

Go for it. I have one from liberty flights cant remember the name it starts with a t though about £40 for the whole kit. Ii have a no smoking lady part of my midwife team and shes more than happy for me to use it aswell as all the patches and stuff she can throw at me. Its all the other chemicals which are more dangerous to baby than the nicotine. She explaines that all though not perfect cos baby will get tiny amounts of nicotine its a million times better than subjecting them to allthe other chemicals in fags. Good luck

I wouldn't personally. They still contain nicotine and that is an addictive drug. I'd talk to your midwife about stopping altogether.

They are an aid to quitting... A clean way rather than just cutting down on fags

Can't give any pregnancy advice, but my brother recently quit using one. He had tried everything else, it meant he could concentrate on cutting down first then slowly cut out the habit of holding it. Much easier for him to put down the electronic one than a real one, once the actual addiction was dealt with.

I'm not sure about those things. All that sucking on plastic... Does the vapour coming through the plastic tube do any damage? Are there toxins in the plastic?

I quit with one (although wasn't pregnant at the time so I'd ask your doctor about that). My experience was great however. Haven't smoked a 'real' cigarette since December last year (Was my NY resolution this year). If you're going to get on then don't get one of the cheap ones you see in Tesco, etc. You need to get a good one. The cheap ones don't stay charged long or aren't re-fillable. I recommend a starter kit as they come with everything you need. Try here www.easyvape.co.uk/e-cig-kits-c-122

I quit with one :) and eventually stopped using that a year ago. Wasn't pregnant at the time though. Although I'd say if you have to have something and it's a choice between smoking and the e-fag, e-fag wins everytime. Some brilliant ones at totallywicked.com
