Bleeding

Hold my hand please. Second pregnancy, no bleeding in first pregnancy. Just got a big shock in the loo when I found a reasonable amount of not particularly bright but not particularly dark blood, with some bits in. I've put a pad on and will see how it goes. I think I'm imagining pains. What do I do?

How far along are you? Is it very early, could be implantation bleeding,
If later then call the MW and see what they say.
Good luck

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2012 21:47

Sorry, 11+5

I would phone epau it could be something simple but best to get checked. hope your ok thinking of you x

Mama1980 · 29/11/2012 21:54

I would call your EPAU and ask their advice. For what it's worth I bled a lot with my first ds and he was fine but its usually best to get things checked out. I have my fingers crossed all is well.

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2012 21:56

I don't have any numbers yet as my notes won't be returned to me until the first scan in 2 weeks. DP thinks we should wait until morning unless it gets worse. Most recent tmi update is no new blood on pad, but blood/bits when wiping.

Could be nothing, could be something. It was something for me when it happened to me, so please get in touch with your nearest EPU x

looneytune · 29/11/2012 22:09

Oh I'm so sorry to hear you have this worry, I'm on the AN board although haven't been on for ages (was shockedminder - I'm 11+3).

Bleeding at any stage can go either way, I've had bleeding with 2 previous pregnancies, one didn't work out but was very early on, the other was with ds2 and obviously all was fine. I think the only thing you can do is phone your EPU in the morning (as not got the number, phone main hospital and ask to be put through) but if it gets bad in the meantime, either go to A&E or phone NHS Direct?

x

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2012 22:13

Thanks Looney, I think I should wait until morning whilst things are as they are.

Id phone now as even if they wont scan overnight (which a lot of hospitals dont afaik) they will note your name down and you may find you can get checked out quicker tomorrow. I had a bleed at 7 weeks and was advised to ring back if I had pains, red blood, clots or a large amount of blood over a signigicant period of time. I dont know if that reassures you until you can speak to someone?

looneytune · 29/11/2012 22:16

Actually yes, if they are open and you're able to speak to someone tonight, it might be worth at least making a phone call? Very unlikely they can scan, as has been mentioned, but might be worth the call? x

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2012 22:57

Sorry for c&p from June thread:

I phoned. MW didn't ask any questions about colour/amount etc, just said A&E, but it felt more like she was saying there's nothing we could do as you're only 11 weeks. I feel like unless things get worse there's nothing to be gained from sitting in A&E all night (leaving DS with DP here) that can't be done at 8.30 at the doctors/A&E.

I wouldn't waste your time with A and E overnight if the bleeding is not that heavy. All they do is refer you to your closest early pregnancy unit. Did your midwife tell you where your early pregnancy unit is? Mine is self referral so you can just call then they will tell you when to turn up. Alternatively go to your GP tomorrow and they will refer you on.

This happened to me at eight weeks on my second, it is a shock especially as i had no bleeding with my first. I had an early scan and I was told it was prob related to previous internal stitching from previous birth. Everything was fine but it was a scary time and I had to wait five days for the scan. I had bleeding on and off for about a week particularly after a bowel movement.

If the bleeding gets significantly worse and is soaking through maternity pads every hour then go straight to A and E. Otherwise see your GP or Midwife tomorrow to get that early scan.

It may well be nothing to worry about.

PseudoBadger · 30/11/2012 10:02

The doctor is on the phone to the EPU now to get me seen. Thanks everyone.

Well the earliest scan appointment is on Monday! I've taken that and they've said if things get worse to go to A&E

Fingers crossed for you, OP x

PickleSarnie · 01/12/2012 11:16

I'm afraid that you may find that midwives seem a bit flippant with early bleeding. Partly because if the worst is happening, there is nothing they can do at this stage but also because a large percentage of the time bleeding occurs in pregnancy but it doesn't mean that there will be a bad outcome. They are mode concerned with your health at the moment so get to a&e if the bleeding gets really heavy or you start getting strong pains.

I had a massive amount of bleeding at about the same time as you, like a really really heavy period for two days. I had to change pads every hour it was that heavy. Baby was fine and is now a happy 16 week old born at home at 39+5

Hope all goes well for you x

itsmyfirsteek · 01/12/2012 18:08

4th pregnancy and 5 weeks pregnant. Have had some bleeding now for two days and period like cramps all day today. This never happened with previous pregs, trying to take it easy but going out of my head with worry. Went to my EPUB today, they did internal scan and said they could see baby sac, I'm just worrying with this bleeding, help!
