i am 8 weeks today and i have an awful taste in my mouth that i cant really describe. its just constant and nothign tastes right. i have never had this before in previous pg. is there anything i can do to get rid of it - apart from brushing teeth a million times a day (which makes me gag). have also tried polos, chewing gum, jelly babies etc but its still there! will it go of its own accord do you think? anyone else had this?

TIA

I had it at around this stage. I didn't with ds1.

I used polos for some relief, but to be honest nothing really helped and it went away over a couple of weeks I think, about the same time as morning sickness maybe?

I had this. Mouthwash with bicarbonate of soda neutralised it. One teaspoon in a glass of water. Normal mouth taste!

Yes, I have had this on and off since the start of my pg (36 weeks now).. Never found a trigger food or drink; things that tasted awful one day tasted fine another.

It was definitely worse at the beginning. During the second trimestre it went away. Now I get it on and off...

I've just come to the conclusion that it's just another side-effect of being pregnant that will disappear with the arrival of baby.

You could try sugar free chewing gum, I've lived on that for weeks now.
Was eating lollipops but they were ruining my teeth!

Not really, it's hideous isn't it. Gargling bicarb solution helped a bit as did slugging back copious amounts of Gaviscon. As the pregnancy has progressed it's calmed down a lot but I still suffer a bit. Continuously eating is another possible solution!

Crisps, Pom bears and mini cheddars

i know its awful isnt it. i can now understand why some people complain about being pregnant! today i am just trying to keep drinking to take the taste away. i hope it goes soon!

I'm getting it too!! I feel like I've not brushed my teeth for weeks and I only brushed them this morning...it makes no difference no matter how many times I brush. This is No3 and I've not had this before. Nothing tastes nice either and my 'morning' sickness lasts all day and night (although no actual throwing up, thank goodness!!)

I don't know what to do about it, but it's nice to know I'm not on my own!!

AmandaCooper · 28/11/2012 13:39

Mine significantly improved at about 14 weeks.

CitrusyOne · 28/11/2012 15:24

This was one of my very first symptoms. I found that sour fizzy sweets helped me.

looloo13 · 28/11/2012 16:13

Im having it this time, never had it with previous pregnancies, its awful Im almost 12 weeks and hoping it will stop soon, thought I was only person with this glad I read this thread

It's good to hear that it's not necessarily every pregnancy. It was so horrendous in the first trimester it's enough to put you off!
