I'm constipated for 3 days at a time and then running to the bathroom the next 2 days in a row!

Am 24 weeks and was very constipated during first trimester but now am lurching from one state to the next!

It's additionally complicated for me by the fact that I had chronic constipation before pregnancy (slow-transit bowel) for which I took Movicol and now I have no idea how to titrate my dose (have been cleared to use it in pregnancy by obstetrician) as if I get constipated for a few days I'm worried about taking Movicol as lo and behold my bowels are bound to move spectacularly of their own accord the next day and the Movicol addition would be catastrophic Blush

Is this normal or is this just me and my weird gastric system??!!

It's not just you. 25 weeks here, and had been wonderfully regular until a couple of weeks ago. Then came five days of nothing, followed by half an hour of stomach cramps that had me in tears, culminating in an explosive attack of the runny bum. Since then my digestive tract appears to have been on strike, and will only release anything once every two or three days.

I must say, though, what's missing in solids is certainly being made up for in stenches.

Pregnancy, it's such a delight, isn't it?

Oh dear stormybrid, sorry you're suffering too :(

Yes it is such a delight isn't it!?

Still, I am glad I'm not the only one...

Have you tried having probiotics to help regulate your bowel? It's really helped me and its kinder than movicol!

I have/had this however at 25 weeks I think it has now just gone to not being able to go :(.
Last pregnancy I ate a lot of dried apricots well I snacked on them most days and don't remember going back and forth so much. I can't seem to handle eating them all the time now though.

emerald, I could almost have written your post. My only (glamorous) addition is a chronic fissure, which has been rather painful throughout. I have also been cleared for Movicol but am also nervous about making things worse. I can't offer any advice, but am here in solidarity.
