Just worked out with DH that my AF was due ten days ago Hmm. Been so busy for the last month going to interviews etc and had decided to have a couple of months off trying. Going to POAS later on but my desire to eat pickled onion monster munch and coco pops is making me think I am. Would be DC2.

I start a big new job on Tuesday - yikes! What's the form, can they sack me? Do I keep it secret for as long as poss?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

They can't sack you, no! They might be a bit miffed but there's nothing that can do. Is it a new company you'll be working for? You'll be at a disadvantage in terms of maternity pay.

Announcing would depend on your job. I told a select amount of colleagues at 8 weeks because of the nature of my job (nursing). You have to tell your employer by 22 weeks I think how much may leave you're planning to take. To be fair, if its DC2, you're likely to show earlier so you may as well be honest.

Just did test and got bfp!

It's a big job with a lot of responsibility. Shit. This really wasn't part of the plan. Dh is over the moon though, bless him!

Think I'll try and get through my 3 month probation period then tell them. Worst is that I won't get smp (I don't think?) but I'll just save money each month in prep. Only want to take 6 months off max so hope it'll be ok.

Ow, I know I should feel happy but I just feel weird. Don't even feel pg either??

If you've been employed elsewhere previously then you can claim maternity allowance from the government, its only the basic but better than nothing.

I would wait to get through your probation period, but then I do tend to fear the worst in a situation (i'd be worried that they would let me go in probation period, however this is unlikely), also it gives you a chance to get to grips with the role, get known etc.

If it is a physical job / there is a rusk to you, then obviously tell sooner.

Congrats Grin

It's an office job so no worries there. Figure that if I work my arse off and make sure they think I'm fab it'll be fine. Grin

I think they'd be expecting me to have another baby at some point given I have an 18 mo already and have spoken about relocating for better quality family life etc but prob not so soon.

They tried to headhunt me two years ago when I was pg with ds1.

Ah you should be ok then i'd think, im sure they will be fine! best laid plans eh? Smile

LittleMilla · 24/11/2012 12:08

Argh, best laid plans indeed! So typical that it only happens once you stop 'trying' and you land a massive new job!

Right, so I try and keep it under wraps for the next three months then?

Wish me luck!

I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks after starting a new job and honestly they were very nice about it, I would try not to worry.

Congratulations Grin

LittleMilla · 24/11/2012 15:02

Thank you pink. Out of interest, at what stage did you tell them?

I am starting this job to ease some financial burden on my DH (who wants to get a job closer to our new home). Got the slight fear that I won't get through my probation without showing too much...and I am a TERRIBLE liar! Perhaps with the stakes being so much higher I might suddenly get better. Grin

I had a interview for my current job and found out I was pregnant the same day, I've only got a contract till the end of June. So will be leaving them 2 months early.(due 14th of may) I actually feel kinda bad about this. I work with chemicals, but luckily this is my second pregnancy so I knew the ones to avoid, so didn't tell my work till after the 12 week scan. They were great about it to my face anyway! I probably would wait till your 3 month probation is up, but legally they can't get rid of you cause you Re pregnant. I had a colleague in a previous job who started wearing a suit jacket open, when she was pregnant to disguise the bump. It totally worked except we all knew she did it after her 3 rd pregnancy!
