SPD sufferers help me out!

I had SPD when pregnant with DS (19mo), I seem to remember it coming on around the 18/19 weeks mark. Am currently 18+4 with DC2 and have, as yet, had absolutely no sign of the distinctive achey fanjo pain.
Midwife told me to expect it much earlier with this pregnancy but as each day passes with no sign, I'm getting my hopes up that i'll escape it completely!
Anyone had SPD in one pregnancy but not in another? Or am I clutching at straws?!

Hi phantom I didn't want to read and run.

I'm pg with DC2 and have been suffering with SPD since 16 weeks but I didn't have it with DC1, so I have no idea but I've not heard of anyone I know who has suffered with it and not got it again.

Fingers crossed you'll keep feeling on top of the world. There is always an exception to the rule.

Don't normally post but wanted to offer you some hope. I suffered with SPD with DC1 and ended up on crutches but didn't get it at all with DC2 and she was a whopper at over 10lb too. Smile

Hope that helps, I remember searching for the same answer when pregnant with DC2 and hoping I wouldn't get it although most of the evidence points towards getting it second time and worse.

That's excellent news PlantASeed

It won't convince me to try my luck with any further pgs but hopefully the OP can find some comfort!

Dd1/2 without dd3/dc4 with.

Mine came on earlier this time and was getting quite painful but over last few weeks have had very little pain, just the odd twinge (am 20 wks). I did see an osteopath a few weeks ago but it had started to improve before that. Don't know why. Theory now is that it's caused mainly by an underlying biomechanical problem, so maybe you have inadvertently sorted yourself out in between pregnancies?

Grin maybe there is hope for me yet! Thanks for the replies

Hi Phantom - I got SPD at 19 weeks with DC1 and was on crutches. It was excruciating. This time round I haven't had it at all and am 40+5 now. I was fully prepared to get it this time round but it seems it doesn't necessarily follow. Hope you manage to avoid it this time too.

DC1 Had SPD. OUCH!
DC2. Braced myself but no sign. (Had a bad back though!)

themammy73 · 22/11/2012 22:28

No SPD with DC1. Had bad SPD with DC2 - crutches. Mild SPD with DC3 but mostly helped by physio. Now 32 weeks pregnant with DC4 and really nothing. The very odd twinge but nothing significant. Hope it stays away for you!

A friend of mine had spd from 20 weeks and got gradually Worse. She didn't need crutches but wore support belt. She didn't get it all with her second two years later. Another friend had it bad in last trimester and didn'tget it at all in second preg three years later.

I did get it with all four pregnancies but it was actually much milder with dc4 (although it started much earlier ~14 weeks)
