Shopping List - What do i need to buy in preperation for my newborn

Am pregnant with #2 at present and everything from last time seems to have completely gone, i cannot remember a thing.

Can we start a list of all the things my newborn will need and how many. This will be a winter baby and DD was born in July so am completely clueless as to what i am meant to do with a winter baby.

Thanks

6 baby grows
6 vests

TBH I wouldn't bother with a snowsuit - first of all you will probably get at least 3 as presnets! (do keep the labels on everything in case you need to take them back - babe maybe smaller or bigger than you expect). Also I just don't find them very useful especiallyon newborns - I'd rather have a nice jacket and layers of blankets that you can adjust. Get a lovely shawl instead. They never seem to fit properly, babies turn their heads in them somehow and you can't adjust their temperature. I'd just get a couple of bodysuits and babygros (perfect for a winter baby and a couple of nice cardigans/jackets and a hat.You are bound to get some lovely outfits. with ds3 I bought one of those newborn sets from mothercare - £20 for a whole little kit - ideal for first day or so.

I spent a fortune in my last few months and tbh majority of what i bought didn't even get used Grin but hey thats half the fun isn't being able to shop for the baby, you will end up getting loads of prezzies (again my dd didn't even wear half of them) sleep suits, vests, and definitely scratch mits, I did get a snowsuit for dd and we used it once as she was so hot and uncomfortable and it was winter, layers are always best, nice little cardigans, hats and little gloves, i use a grobag but its 0.5tog as my upstairs is really hot depends on your heating, you can get those swaddle blankets (quite liked the look of them)

Hi,
Just picked my son up from nursery whose feeling poorly. So I thought something to add to your newborn list a thermometer. Hope you don't get to use it very often though, obviously.

Vests
Sleepsuits
Hat & mittens
Coat/snowsuit
socks/bottes
bibs
Blankets

nappies
cotton wool
Wipes
Breast pads
Nipple cream
Nappy rash cream

LaSenora · 05/04/2006 17:01

a blanket
an outdoor type blanket/cosytoe
some vests
some nappies
a big pack of babygros
a car seat
a pram/buggy
a hat

that's it really. he/she can sleep in the pram (or a drawer!) and people buy clothes. I found a coat was pointless at first and a babygro/blanket/cosytoe combo much more effective

LaSenora · 05/04/2006 17:02

yeah you might need nappies and flannels.
