Ideas on what to buy DC when siblings are born?

I know not everyone does this but we would like to give DD something from her sibling when it is born? Can't think of anything relevant. She is 5.5 and has enough dolls etc which she doesn't play with often anyway. Is there Anything you are planning to buy or have done previously?
Any ideas?

I've got DS a mr tumble matching puzzle. But he'll only be 23 months, so it's not really suitable for a 5 year old.

No ideas what to buy specifically, but perhaps worth thinking about making it a present 'from the baby' and maybe making it something a bit special that she gets to play with when you are feeding the baby - keeps her busy and occupied while you are tied up.

What about a family set of playmobil? I think you can get a mum with a pram and baby, then you could get a girl figure and a dad too?

Or same idea with sylvanian families? New toys to represent you all as the new family group?

I got dd a silver bracelet.

That's sounds good tiredteddy. I do want something she can play with and will enjoy.

How about a book. Topsy and Tim and the new baby, or My sister is super by Hannah Roche and Chris Fisher.

I bought mine a new book from the baby each time I had another baby. This was then read to them when I fed the baby. By the time they were bored of the book, they had excepted me spending time feeding the baby and mainly occupied themselves at these times.

We've got DD who's 5 a bear from the bear factory. They come with a birth certificate and we've put the baby's due date as the bears birthday and it says on the certificate it is from the baby.

DD1 got a micro scooter from her little sister - something she really wanted. She was 2.10 - it took her a while to grow tall enough to really scoot on it, but she loves it now (nearly a year on) and nearly always tells people that her little sister brought it for her.

I have bought DD who is 2.10 an etch a sketch from ELC as a gift from our baby, who is due next week. Hopefully she will play with it when I'm feeding the LO, fingers crossed!

DD1 got a yellow watch from DD2.

She still tells everyone how it was in mummy's tummy with the baby

I did the same thing for dd who had just turned 3 her new brother 'bought' her a scooter to travel to preschool on as he was using the pram .

This time I'm going to let them choose a game to download on my phone (they ask constantly to play on my phone I only allow it as a reward/treat). Something to do whilst I'm feeding and cost pence

My dd1 was almost 6 when dd2 was born ! She was soooo fed up of everyone congratulating her about being a big sister and buying her presents ! It was quite funny actually.. Watching her huff every time someone said it !!

Newtothisstuff - that's really funny, she must of been really fed up. Great ideas here. She will be almost six, she has been asking me for a watch actually. The scooter thing is quite a relevant present although DD has one but I can see how that would make a young child happier when the baby has a buggy they'd have a shiny new scooter, very sweet. I know a lot of peop,e do dolls but I think maybe the smaller playlets would be more her thing.

Definitely getting the watch too.

My DD is only 2.6yo but she has been really keen on Toy Story for ages, getting Jessie doll for her birthday. We've bought her a Woody doll and will tll her baby heard her talking about Woody a lot while in Mummy's tummy etc. I think anything your DD would like/is special to her given she has asked for it would be a good choice :)

dd is almost 7 and we have made her a gift bag with a hello kitty jewellery set (had her ears pierced in august so desperate for new ones), a hoodie with big sister on it, a perfume factory set (for her and daddy to make while i feed) and a load of little bits and bobs like new felt tips, stickers etc... also got her a personalised card from baby and got her a bib for baby but saying I heart my big sister Tallulah.

We got my dd (also 5.5) a cd player (pink because she is obsessed with pink!) and made some CDs from our iTunes library for her. She now goes off to her room and plays it when the baby's crying is getting a bit much for her!

We've got DD a small box of duplo (she'll be 2.5), but DH absolutely refuses to say it's from the baby.

Apparently this is fanciful and unbelievable.

DS is due 2 weeks before Father Christmas will be delivering a stocking to DD...

I'm doing it the opposite way around, my daughter (whose 8) is buying her little sisters a teddy each and loves the thought of them having something from her when they are in the hospital. Had never occurred to me to get something for her from them... hmmmm

Dd got a disposable camera and small photo album when ds was born. Her "job" was to take pics of everything - at the hospital, arriving home etc. She was so excited and still looks through the album over 2 years later.

Mrsdaisaku - your DD is 8 so maybe quite adaptable to the new arrival? It's a nice thing to do to sort of start a relationship with the siblings when they are young and make them feel included, like that you do it the other way round too.
Love all of the ideas, cameras a great one, giving them responsibility keeps them included. Love that tiny "her job".
