Hypnobirthing

Hi all, I'm only 9 + 2 but have been thinking had the living shits scared out of my be DM about D day. My bestie is currently pregnant and considering hynobirthing. I've had a quick look on the internet and it looks like an option I will consider. Couple of questions:

1. Does it work
2. Any book or CD recommendations
3. Any recommended classes (Brighton-ish area)

hey, and you are not alone..i'm 32+3 and starting to get anxious about the due date...i got some books out my library on alternative therapies for birth and pregnancy and hypnobirthing sounds really good and am thinking about trying it myself...my mother is a hypnotherapist i will ask her about brighton area...

Have a look at positive-birth.com. I al using their downloadsm, video tutorials and have had a one off workshop with them which was brilliant, I can genuinely say it has really relaxed me and my view of birth. Several of my clients used Kristen (poitive-birth) and had amazing experiences which is why i chose to do the same thing. Good luck

I used hypnob for my first pg (nearly 3 years ago) and (aged 38) I was lucky to experience a six-hour labour at home in a birthing pool, which was calm peaceful and empowering. The dog slept through the whole thing! I now have a v healthy, happy toddler (mostly) and am 31 wks pg with DC2 (aged 41!) - I'm hoping that the same techniques will pay off. Read as many + birth stories as you can and block out the dramas/bad news stories. Just remember your body (and your baby) know what to do and breathe, breathe, breathe - but also be prepared to go to hospital for assistance if necessary, as great expectations can lead to feelings of disappointment and guilt if you don't get lucky with your birth. It's all a bit of a lottery. Btw, going on the course is a great way to introduce your OH to the approach and get support and understanding. The best book and CD I thought was Marie Mongan and I love anything by/about Ina Mae Gaskin. Good luck ladies. xxx

i have a marie mongan book and cd from amazon, but a couple of actual sessions might help! search the internet! i have a couple of friends who swear by it, and ultimately i think being relaxed must be a good thing..!

Thanks ladies. You've all given me a nudge in the right direction. Once my 12 week scan is out of the way, I'll start ordering some bits and bobs and check out the classes mentioned. Thanks again

if you're considering the classes anyway, do the classes before buying books/cds.

A cd was included in my class package and its prob best to keep practicing the same visualisations/meditations rather than end up with a different book, cd and class IYKWIM. It probably doesn't matter which you do, but its all about practice, the more you do it the quicker and deeper the triggers work so best stick to the same few triggers
