sharp stabbing pains above pelvic bone 10 weeks. What is it?

i have be having these pains on and off for 2 days, they are not crippling just feel like twinges, rang the midwives who said they dont know what it is and they kept goin on about miscarriages!! didnt ask me to come in so they could check, feel very panicky now. help. had a scan at 9 weeks and baby was fine and had a heartbeat, so i thought mcs were less likely once a heartbeat had been established? help.

that's not v helpful advice from midwives. From your description it sounds like round ligament pain- which is basically muscles stretching- it is very common at your stage of pregnancy.

If it's been happening for two days and you have not seen any sign of blood, and 9 week scan was fine, I'd imagine that a miscarriage is less likely to be the answer.

could be spd - get your midwife to get you a physio referral asap - the earlier you get support (literally - a thick wodge of elastic girdle stuff around your hips to help hold them together!) the less bad the problem will get.

First pg - got pains like you describe. MW/GP very dismissive, say it's common, I'm pg, what do I expect, put up with it. Ended up being barely able to walk, eventually got some physio a few weeks before delivery - exercises and the girdle thing, really did help.

2nd pg - same thing happened but living in a different area. Told MW, who got me a physio referral within a couple of weeks. Got the support belt on quickly and overall i was able to stay much more active, had much less pain.

they couldn't believe that I'd just been left to suffer when I lived in London - apparently the reason I was given for not being given a girdle early was that they don't help everyone. I later found out that they are useful for 95% of patients that have this problem and as treatments go they are pretty cheap, so definitely worth a try as a first treatment...

Defs agree with round ligament pain. I had exactly the same. It's just the stretching. I had a bump very very early, and I wonder if the two things were connected. Ignore crazy midwives! (not the last time you will hear that, I dare say.)

I had quite severe sharp pains above my hips and admit it didn't even enter my mind that they were 'miscarriage' pains because they were so high and such obvious...'bone pains' if you know what I mean? The problem with a midwife on the phone is that she could very easily misunderstand you - pop into your surgery if you can and see what they say but it definitely sounds like ligament pain.

The midwife will always tell you worst case scenario because otherwise if something happened she would get in trouble but I also had these pains and for a few weeks on and off they were really bad and then absolutely fine, I was really worried and thought it could be all sorts of medical problems but turns out it was stretching pains as the baby moved out of the protection of the pelvic area which is what happens around the stage you are now. After about a month I stopped getting the pains and am now 18+2 and everything so far has been fine thank god. Good luck hope this helps

Hey, thanks for replies, I am now 13+2 and went to doctors and turned out I had a water infection, had my scan at 12+3 and little wriggler was perfect! X
