can I have an irrational, hormonal rant, please?

I understand people like to make small talk about bumps and babies, but I'm not sure how many more times I can respond to a variation of "what does your mother think/is your mum excited" etc without bursting into tears. My mother has been dead for three years; she would have been thrilled. I'm really missing her at the moment. One colleague in particular has asked this question three flippin' times and apparently not listened to the answer!

Not at all irrational. You must be missing your mum so much right now. I must admit this is not a question I'd ever ask. I'd stick with congratulations.
Depending on the sort of environment you work in could a colleague send a message round (if it is a few close colleagues) or have a word with batter some sensitivity into the offending twonk?

Unfortunately, the bigger you get, the less of a human and more of a baby incubator you become "how far are you?" "Are you excited yet?" "Do you know the sex/name?". It's especially bad when your office is situated on the main traffic route and every one who walks passed stops to ask. Not once has anyone but my family/extremely close friends asked me about my life whilst pregnant (amazing holiday, gigs) and apparently as I am now a weeble I can't possible go out in the dark or further that 5miles from home, grrr. As for the pure rude insensitivity of your colleague, point out you have already told them three times about your mother, so do not ask again, you find it very emotional and insensitive.

Not remotely irrational. I agree that your colleague is being a total idiot. Bloody hell if someone told me ONCE that their mum was dead I would just say I am so sorry and shut up and not ask again!!!
Sorry you're feeling upset by the way, it must be hard, especially with insensitive people asking the same question.
