Tummy tubs

Hi all,

Do any of you have experience of using a tummy tub? What did you think of it?

We used one until DD was about 6 months at which point she refused to sit down in the bath, but we loved it. Like REALLY loved it (so much so I still haven't got rid of it 3 months down the line)
The initial few baths were tricky but once you get used to it, and as they become more sturdy and can control their head, it's brilliant, I could bath DD without having to support her very mush.
From the reviews I read baby either loves it or hates it.

Loved it.

My DB and SIL have one for their DS. He loved it, but they had to stop using it when he was 5 months as he kept trying to either stand up, or push his feet out of the water so he submerged his head. Tummy tubs are good, but only for a short time.

Worth a try cos often great, but I only used once with 2 different babies & found traumatic. They (and I) much preferred a moulded sponge support, like this in the main bath.

Haven't tried one but we did used to use a bucket (so the same thing, really) for ds1 when our old house was a building site and that worked well.

We're currently using the Tippitoes Mini Bath for DD and it's great. It's a very small version of a baby bath (with built in moulded support) so you use less water and it stays warm for longer ime.

We also used to wash DS1 in the kitchen sink while he fitted (it was granite, not stainless steel, so less cold!)

I just used the sink!

We used ours for ages. It was great following a c-section because it uses way less water than a regular bath, so I could easily lift it onto the dining table and bathe DD there.

My NCT lady said the bath could be used up to the age of three which baffled me.

Check out you tube there are videos on there on how to use it as well as toddlers in them. I kid you not!
Where abouts in the country are you, as you could have mine.

found it pretty useless tbh. you can't wash baby as you need both hands to hold his/her head over water. went out to buy a cheap standard baby bath right after the first try.

when dc1 had eczema it was great, though, as he could really soak in the oil bath (but got really slippery).

we used it for years and years until it broke as a laundry basket and the base is still in use as step-stool near the sink.

I loved mine and will be using it again for number two shortly. We have used it to store bath toys in too!

washing up bowl did the job just fine!

Definitely consigned to my own personal list of 'stuff you really really don't need but great marketing convinces you otherwise'.

Each to their own though. Looking on the bright side, I bet you can get one for pennies on eBay.

Up in wakefield

Had one and hated it. DD always looked as if she was about to slip under & I needed DH to help me hold her up! She was very little though, it might be nicer for an older baby that has stronger muscles. We bought a newborn insert for the main bath instead. DD lay happily in it & I had my hands free to wash her.

I used sink for first three
But love the tummy tub for our 4th
He loved it so much he used it well into toddlerhood

I didn't have many gadgets or gizmos but loved the tummy tub
It now holds all the bath toys

. You just don't fill it so full if you worried about them going under

Used and loved it for 3 DCs. They all love water now, and I am convinced that is one of the reasons. It is time for us to admit they are too big for it now though. DD1 turns 13 this month. She really doesn't fit it anymore.

DS had terrible trouble with wind and the HV gave me a shot of one to see if it made any difference. It was brilliant. As you lowered him into it, the wind would come up and he'd let out a massive belch. Brilliant thing, if not just a glorified, expensive bucket.

I loved it with both of mine although it was a long time ago now, my oldest is 13. :)
