My letter doesn't say anything so I'm assuming not to the full bladder but thought I'd check!

My letter for the 20 week scan says full bladder! Confused

BillyBollyBandy · 02/11/2012 09:39

No not for 20 weeks as the baby is big enough to be seen. I didn't have to have one past my 12 week scans. Check when you get there a down a bottle of water if you need to.

BreeVanDerTramp · 02/11/2012 09:40

No, not for 20 week scan Smile

I didn't need a full bladder for mine. And I had to empty my bladder anyway for when they did an internal scan as part of it, to check the birth canal length.

I had a growth scan at 29 weeks and was told to have a full bladder, which I duly did, only to be told by the sonographer that it was TOO full and that I didn't need it to be full. She said "don't you feel Iike you need to go to the toilet with such a full bladder?". Well YES that is exactly what I feel!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 02/11/2012 09:45

:) don't need a full bladder?! I hated that so much I suspect my letter is standard - drink 1 1/2 pints of water an hour before on every scan letter!

ZuleikaD · 02/11/2012 10:17

No, not for 20 weeks. In fact a full bladder can distort things, according to what one sonographer told me, and you can sometimes get a false diagnosis of placenta praevia.

Had mine on Monday and she told me to go toilet! X

They don't ask for a full bladder at 20wks here either.

I went for my 12 week scan and duly drank the water. And they were running late. After half an hour I asked if it would be much longer. They said no. After an hour I begged to go to the loo, they said no hang on, is imminent and you need a full bladder. Two hours late it was and I was in so much pain I was crying. They told me to go to the toilet (bladder too full) and let out 'a bit'. 3 times I had to go and let out 'a bit'. In the end they decided it would be easier with an empty bladder. Oh God the relief. I sobbed. Blush

My letter doesn't say full bladder but the one for 12 weeks did.

NewMrsH · 03/11/2012 10:03

Thanks everyone, I went without a full bladder and all was fine!! I had to be scanned twice tho as little one was in the wrong position! All ok tho.

Thanks as always!!

Yes, yes, yes to full bladder, I'm a sonographer and although it's not always a problem it's much easier to empty a too full bladder than to fill a too empty one iyswim
