Hi, what can we take (if anything ) apart from paracetamol ? I've got a abscess on my tooth and paracetamol is not cutting it ! :0(

Hi,

My doc has said it's ok for me to take co-codamol.

I hope the pain goes soon x

ItsMyLastOne · 01/11/2012 21:45

You can get co-codamol over the counter which has 7/8mg of codeine I believe.
I got prescribed co-dydramol for severe headaches and pain under my ribs, which has 10mg of codeine.

I have read that you do need to be careful about taking codeine in your third trimester, but my gp and mw have both said it's fine for me to take it as I've been assessed and am being checked regularly.

Can you get in with a gp to get something prescribed?

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 01/11/2012 22:05

You can definitely take codiene - OTC tablets contain 8mg each so a full dose of two would be 16mg of codiene (1g paracetamol). Your GP can prescribe 30mg of codiene if you need more. Be warned though, it bungs you up (trust me, I know from experience) so keep hydrated and take probiotics! Is the access being treated?

I saw the doc today about pain killers. He said I have to stop taking my 30/500 co codamol by week 36 as it can slow the babies respiratory something. Sad

confuddledDOTcom · 02/11/2012 23:37

Yes you can take codeine, I'm also on co-d for long term PGP. If you need to take it late in pregnancy take it but tell your MW or obstetrician because they need to give baby an antidote after birth. My doctor said it was something to weigh up against my pain and that pain management was more important, the antidote is nothing.

datingthedevil · 02/11/2012 23:48

Thank you confuddled. In that case I'll continue to take it. I've got wicked pgp and have done my back in sawing a bookcase in half (I forgot I'm pregnant) so I don't want to be without it.

You can take ibu but not in third trimester as it interferes with the lung development, I was told.

Littlemissimpatient · 03/11/2012 10:25

You shouldn't take ibu in first trimester
It can prevent implantation
