Which food/drink should I eat/drink/avoid with heartburn?

I have started to notice through trial and error that some things make it worse, for example blackcurrent squash. Could anyone save me all the experimentation and let me know if there is a fail-safe list of foods?

Isn't milk supposed to be good to counteract it? Could be wrong tho

Yes when I had heartburn when pregnant I drunk loads of milk, was only thing that helped. Also if you get tesco's own fruit flavoured chewable tablets to help, gaviscon did nothing for me.

Foods that made it worse for me was crisps. ESP cheese and onion. Can't remember anything else. If I think of anything else I'll be back :)

oooooh going through this myself...

Things to avoid...
Marmite :( Marmalade, ketchup, anything remotely spicy or acidic.

Food I find I can eat comfortably...
Jacket potatoe - tuna/beans/cheese, Pizza is nice, Cottage Pie/pies with veg and mash, sausages, lasagne, spaghetti bolognese (with little garlic), roast dinner, Yoghurt. I like a glass of nesquick milkshake at the end of the day. There is more obviously, but something to keep you going.

Good luck, its an annoying preg side effect!!

Oh that's good. Something possessed me to buy strawberry flavoured milk today, which I would never usually buy! Hopefully that will help.

Tomato always makes mine worse - that's chilli, spag Bol, tomato pesto, etc etc out the window. It's what we live off here

Everything makes it worse for me Sad as does not eating at all for a few hours. Had it since week sixteen this time. Mars milkshakes help Wink yum!

Marmalade is very, very bad!

Gaviscon double action tablets seem to give the fastest relief I've found. I swear with each pregnancy the heartburn gets worse...on dc3!

On another thread, someone recommended drinking Horlicks,
I am now drinking a mug every night before I go to bed and it really does seem to help,
Also I find the Gaviscon tablets do nothing but the liquid works well (tastes vile though, why can't they make it in nicer flavours?)

Coffee, citrus, acidic or spicy foods make mine worse!

I didn't find any foods that didn't trigger it - decided to give up trying when drinking water gave me acid indigestion. However, getting the doctor to prescribe loads of Gaviscon liquid helped so I could sip it whenever needed which at least stopped the burning sensation, and just really cutting back on the amounts I ate and following advice not to do things like bend over, sleep flat, eat just before sleeping reduced the amount of actual vomiting it was causing. I had it really badly for a couple of weeks and then it just went, so if you're suffering it may not last forever, fingers crossed. Good luck!
