I'm 38 weeks and my DD is in hospital, no one knows whats wrong but they think its her brain. (go on special needs: children and 'Why oh why?' for more info) anyway i am just wondering could this stress kick start me into labour? I dont want it too as it is a very bad time... Thoughts? x

So sorry about your DD, I hope she's ok.

As far as I know stress is more likely to stall labour than bring it on.

Ok. I do hope that is the case x

Well apparently stress hormones delay labour because in the wild a stressed animal could be in danger and so the hormones signal to the body that it is not safe yet to bring the baby into the world.

Generally you need to feel relaxed and ready for labour to start, although physical events can override that of course.

I really hope the situation with your DD is resolved soon - I read your other thread and it sounds very scary.

OP, I am sorry to hear about your DD. I hope labour waits until a better time. It sounds awful.

Cailindana I could bloody kiss you. Im really stressed at the minute too (homeless) and I thought I was in labour last night. If thats true then it would be so good.

CailinDana · 25/10/2012 14:18

Oh no sorry to hear you're having a tough time too wannabe. Stress can even stop labour that has already started as far as I know. It's a survival thing - it makes sense for the stressed body to shut down and not let the baby come into a potentially dangerous situation.

Is there any hope of a quick resolution to the homelessness problem wannabe?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 25/10/2012 14:23

We have just found out we are signing a lease at 4.30pm today. So no longer homeless. Just the stress of getting moved now and really dont want to be going into labour until thats done.

That's great, you must be relieved! Moving is a massive pain in the arse, but at least the uncertainty is over. When are you due?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 25/10/2012 14:33

Due a week tomorrow but I had a bit of a bloody show last night and pains. Really thought it was starting!

CailinDana · 25/10/2012 14:35

Sure as eggs you'll go 12 days overdue after all that!! Blooming babies, sent to try us.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 25/10/2012 14:37

I was 10 days over with DD so thats not unlikely :o

Sorry for hijacking OP.

I am having hypno birthing and she was telling me this.

It makes sense when you think of it.

Hope you both get through, how stressful.
