And how often do you need to do it for it to work ? Just wondering ... :)

I've been trying all those, induction due in the morning. No luck but the sex was more fun than the other stuff.

I bought some castor oil but then read that it can also cause the baby to pass meconium so it didn't seem worth the risk.

I've also tried Evening Primrose oil massaged into bits and baths with clary sage and rose oils. Oh and a glass of Prosecco.

Tonight I've given up and just hoping to get some sleep.

My mw said 'what gets 'um in gets 'um out!'

I thought it was the sperm what did it. I don't know how soon it is might to trigger it though, not like it can be instant is it?

Me too, blonder. Due to ring hospital at 7am. Good luck Smile

blonderthanred · 23/10/2012 06:14

We had to ring at 6 and we're going in for 7. Good luck one!

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 23/10/2012 06:15

Oo exciting! How do you feel? I'm quoted scared, and it's DC3!

blonderthanred · 23/10/2012 07:56

I was terrified last night, this morning just a bit hazy, sleep deprivation is maybe a good thing.

Checked in at 7 but nothing likely to happen for a while so just chatting to DH and wondering what's for breakfast!

Hope all has gone well so far and they have a bed ready for you. I was really worried after all the anticipation I would be put back a day - now that would be frustrating.

Didn't work for me, neither did RLT, curry, pineapple, bouncing on a yoga ball, walking up the stairs sideways .... Grin

BobblyGussets · 23/10/2012 08:15

I know it sounds impressive magic, but all I had to do was bend over Grin

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/10/2012 08:20

Ds was born at 38+5, waters broke at 2am and we'd had sex at about 10pm.

Def going to try it again this time from next week (37 weeks)! Grin

mamababa · 23/10/2012 08:25

Isnt it something in the semen that softens the cervix? Although presumably it would need to be ready to be softened? I think it could be the prostoglandins, isn't that in the pessaries they use?
Also I think a others have said the contractions of the muscles during orgasm can bring it on. Time to buy a few batteries then! Grin

RockabillyKitty · 23/10/2012 08:41

My yoga teacher said it's to do with the sperm but it has to be... ingested rather than through sex. Men get ALL the fun lol.

ALittleBitOfMagic · 23/10/2012 11:11

Oooh good luck with your inductions !!! Smile

My midwife told me lots of sex, preferably in the doggy position, can start labour off. The sperm has the same stuff in it as the gel they use to induce you and the orgasm can help the contractions to start. If anything happens, have a nice long walk to get things really going. I also ate so much fresh pineapple my mouth was raw, but think the pineapple and castor oil thing is to get your bowls going, which can start contractions.

If it helps any, when you are induced with the gel, you are told to stay on the bed for about 20 minutes to keep it on your cervix. Try this after sex as well (if you can manage not to have a wee for that long).

Finally had my baby! After 4 days of unsuccessful induction, walking, bouncing, shaggin' and dancing I had a CS this aft as it seemed my body just wasn't ready. He is beautiful, 8lbs0, we're learning about breastfeeding together and I am shattered but elated.

Hope everyone on this thread is enjoying their new babies and all are well and happy. I think our scientific conclusion is that sex may or may not work but you may as well have fun trying.

JudeFawley · 27/10/2012 01:42

I did something preferable.

Went for a big dog walk with a very dear and funny friend. We romped through the country side, over many stiles and he had me in stitches for most of it.

I was in labour by the time we hit home!
