2 day over now and irregular period cramps and back ache are leading to NOWT!

And if one more persons tries to give me some 'helpful' advice I shall tell them
"Yes, I have been having sex whilst eating curried pineapple"
Fuck off!!!!

Hi all. I'm hoping the radio silence is from lots of you being in labour!

Just back from my sweep and feeling positive as midwife said I am 2cm dilated and all looking very favourable. Here's hoping something starts happening soon! Good luck to the rest of you. Smile

Stumbleine · 26/10/2012 14:40

Ha no such luck! No signs of movement over here unfortunately. I lost a little not of my show last night but that's obviously down to the sweep.

Great news re your cervix looking favourable!

Stumbleine · 26/10/2012 14:41

bit of my show!

Sastra · 26/10/2012 15:10

That's great about things looking favourable. Well, I'm officially late now, so let the two weeks of additional hell commence...Sad

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 26/10/2012 16:09

Can I join in? I'll be 41 weeks tomorrow and this baby is going nowhere. My MW attempted a sweep on Tuesday but my cervix was high and closed. I've been having small leaks since Wedbesday so saw another MW today who agreed with my thoughts that I have a small tear somewhere high up in the sac and the leaks happen when the baby's head bounces a bit. Booked in for another sweep on Sunday.

I went for a lovely long walk yesterday and just ended up with blisters Hmm DS has been helping me eat the pineapple production of a small country. DH has been very enthusiastic about his duties :o I don't want to do curry - the thought of a poorly tum during labour is a bit much! What's this about evening primrose oil?

Sastra I'm another one who really, really doesn't want an induction. I was induced at 37 weeks with DS due to pre-eclampsia and it was a long, difficult, painful birth. I felt completely out of control with the pain and the whole experience was terrifying and degrading. I know not all inductions are like that and at 37 weeks it was going to be a tough job to get him out as he just wasn't ready but the thought of starting off down the same track again makes me feel sick. I've had to fight very hard this time for the chance of a normal labour - using the midwife led unit, having access to the birthing pool, not being continuously monitored - and I'm starting to panic that it will all have been for nothing.

Sastra · 26/10/2012 16:33

Thanks for sharing, slightly. It's really helpful to hear people's previous experiences!

Ooh, sweep on a Sunday? I didn't think you could get non-emergency stuff at the weekend!

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 26/10/2012 16:41

Not the kind of experience you want to hear though! In my case it would have been fine if the hospital had followed NICE guidelines and offered an epidural when they broke my waters and put me on a drip. Up until then it was manageable and once I'd had an epidural I slept through most of it but the six hour gap in between isn't something I'd wish on anyone.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 26/10/2012 16:42

My local hospital has a drop-in antenatal clinic on a Sunday, which is rather good!

imustbepatient · 26/10/2012 21:52

Hi SSP, your local Sunday clinic sounds really helpful.

Re your cervix being high and hard at your last sweep, at mine on Wednesday my cervix was also high and MW couldn't get a finger in, but at my sweep today it was low soft forward and 2cm dilated so a lot can change in a short time!

To the people who asked about morning primrose oil, a couple of posters earlier in the thread said that putting oil from a capsule as close as you can get to your cervix can potentially help soften your cervix and make it more favourable for a sweep / labour.

I'm very far from an expert on it but gave it a whirl (desperate times etc!). I just cut a snip in the top of a capsule, inserted and squeezed it to get the oil out, removed the shell then lay on the bed with my hips raised for 15 minutes or so to let gravity get the oil to my cervix. That was on Thursday, with the difference in my two sweeps before and after being as I describe above. Could be a complete coincidence though! Grin

40 + 1 Sad can I reluctantly join in? I know I'm in for the long haul Sad

imustbepatient · 26/10/2012 22:29

Hi abbeyrue, please do join in!

Re my last post, no idea what morning primrose oil is, I meant evening primrose oil. Whoops. Blush

Sastra · 26/10/2012 23:00

Hello Abby! I'm the same as you so we can be long hauling it together!

Hmm, I feel a bit like I have period pain, but I'm probably making it up!

AbbyRue · 26/10/2012 23:07

Hey ladies. If I hadn't been having twinges I think I would be sort of ok but it's been 3 weeks of strong BHs, period pain like cramps and all sorts and so I swore I was going to have him early! But oh no, he's following in the footsteps of his brother and sister who were both at least a week overdue Grin

I'm thinking tomorrow I will play it low, not think about it, not read on labour, log off MN and go get my eyebrows threaded or something. Perhaps if we ignore it will happen? Wishful thinking Blush

Purplecatti · 27/10/2012 09:08

I'm still here Sad
Got swept two days ago (ouch by the way). Was 2cm, 2/5 baby's head palpable which I thought were all good signs. Felt VERY sore afterwards and got lots of tightenings but absolutely zilch has happened.

I am terrified of being induced now even though I have a week to go until they book that it and people keep telling me all sorts can happen in a week.

Stumbleine · 27/10/2012 10:54

Purplecatti that all sounds very promising.

Well, I finally folded and did the dreaded deed with dh this morning! I feel much better as I at least feel I'm doing something proactive iyswim?

Pramdreams · 27/10/2012 14:43

I had a midwife appointment yesterday and it didn't go particularly well. She struggled to find a heartbeat, my bump measured at 38cm instead of 41 cm and she wasn't sure of the position again ( third time).

She attempted a sweep, couldn't even get close as its so far back, the sheet fell off leaving me completely exposed ( I know childbirth isn't dignified but was still a tad embarrassing), and finally she decided to send me for a scan.

We had a long wait at Hospital and after finally seeing a midwife she thought it was breech, I got upset at this, poor hubby didn't know what to do. A Doctor had a feel and she thought it was the head but it felt too wide, a scan confirmed it isn't in breech position but the head is free and she mentioned that in first time mothers the head is usually engaged by now.

Anyway, the Doctor did a sweep, it hurt like hell and there was a little blood but she has also booked me in to be induced on Monday morning. Have been told to bounce on the ball all weekend.

What has me concerned is that quite a few people have questioned the positioning of the head thinking its the shoulders or hips, they all think it is too wide for a head. I have a petite frame, my DH is small for a man, so how has the baby got a (supposedly) big head and how the hell am I going to push it out?

Sorry for the long rambling post, I think nerves are getting to me.

RunningKatie · 27/10/2012 19:35

Can I join in too please? I'm 40+2 now, had acupuncture the other day in an attempt to get things moving but nothing yet. I've been having cramps and pains most evenings now but they never develop into anything.

Saw the MW yesterday who said baby is back-to-back, DD did this to me at the end but thankfully turned in labour. She was 2 weeks late and I had an induction which I'm trying so hard to avoid.

Pram - not surprising the nerves are getting to you. My DD was born on the 25th percentile for weight but has a 99th percentile head, very common in DH's family! Keep bouncing on that ball.

Biggem · 27/10/2012 20:28

I've had my baby!! 41 weeks and she arrived by vbac at 1.49am following 2 sweeps! Wahoo
Good luck to everyone still hanging in there

Full moon Monday night ladies !!!!

javotte · 28/10/2012 15:35

Well, I was booked for an induction on Thursday at 7:00. Had my first contraction at 6:00 and DD was born at 8:30. I barely had the time to crawl onto the delivery table (the MW couldn't even put her gloves on!). I'm so happy she was born spontaneously! Good luck to you all.

javotte · 28/10/2012 17:48

Whoops, I meant Friday of course (at exactly 42 weeks!)
