Dating scans

When I had my dating scan I was put at conceiving on 21/6. Me and my fiancé didn't have sex until 23/6. How can this be possible? I had the nuchal scan which is said to be highly accurate

Definitely only accurate to within a few days. I had IVF, so know exactly which day fertilisation occurred; the dates they did at different scans vary by a couple of days in each direction. Your baby is probably a tiny bit bigger than average Smile

Not two weeks though? I was worried I could've been two weeks out but have been assured not.

My scan indicated conception on 16/6; I know exactly when I had sex throughout June because for various reasons I was keeping a record, and 16/6 doesn't fit - 12/6 and 19/6 were the nearest possibilities. No reason for worry or confusion though, as the scan said I was at 11+4 +/-5 days. Babies aren't precisely the same size, so there's always going to be a little margin for error.

I wouldn't worry. When I had my dating scan first I was given a due date of 19th April, then she remeasured as baby changed position. As a result due date changed to 15th April. So it's far from an exact science, just a guesstimate!

I was bring paranoid I could've got pregnant 6/7 instead!

I was the same, according to the nuchal scan I'm due on the 23rd Oct which would've meant I conceived during my period (impossible as there was no sex just before or during my period to account for this). I've been charting my cycles for years and know I ovulated on day 11 of my cycle that month, which would make me due on the 31st Oct - exactly a week after the date they gave me. I don't think they're as accurate as they like to make you think.

lisa2104 · 21/10/2012 16:09

I've been told by lots of different people that it could be a few days but not two weeks. And that there's no chance I could've got pregnant on 6/7 instead.

I know that the measurements Of the baby they gave me fall in perfectly with the dates so I guess a few days isn't really too much to worry about. I also did a test which falls in with the 23/6.

Is this not the same as your other thread?

lisa2104 · 21/10/2012 21:30

Partly I just wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar thing

Also remember that sperm can live in the reproductive tract and fertilise an egg for up to 5 days after intercourse, (I've sometimes read that it can be as long as 7 days) which can mean it could be a previous episode of DTD that worked!

BuntyCollocks · 22/10/2012 07:43

Stop worrying! I dated 5 days behind with my son according to my lmp, and 3 days ahead with this pregnancy. It means nothing. They have an accuracy of +- 5 days. You cannot possibly have conceived in July; I read your other thread. Everyone is telling you the same thing. For god sake relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Thanks bunty. I'm realising now that I sound a bit crazy! I just want everything to be ok xx
