Lightheaded/dizzy while sitting - normal?

I'm sitting at my desk and just got a head rush - like when you stand up too quickly - while still sitting. I now feel quite light headed. Is this normal? I'm almost 20 weeks.

I've had this throughout. Seems to be completely normal, and I would be able to tell you why if I could get off my 40+1 bum off the sofa to go upstairs and look at my pregnancy book... Not very helpful sorry!

Thanks nenehooo, sounds normal then. I did call a mw in a fit of panic who said she didn't really know but try and put my feet up. I can't go home sick again! Guess I'll just had to put up with it.

Is your BP ok? Could be a sign of Pre-eclampsia?

Sheldonella · 18/10/2012 11:14

That's what I was worried about :( She didn't even suggest checking, just mentioned it might be low.

If it carries on I would call again or call the hospital and ask for advice.

Rest at lunch time, feet up and eat something. If it continues or gets worse phone your mw

I've been getting very lightheaded even whilst sitting down it's not nice :( my MW said my blood pressure is low so it could be that maybe? make sure you take it easy! she told me to add a little salt in my dinner's not all of them just every now and then and that's meant to help x

I asked about this last mw appointment. She said it was either anemia - which it wasn't as she checked my bloods, or low bp - which it was. I asked if it was anything to worry about she said no it's normal when pregnant and it'll just make me light headed sometimes. Unless you actually feel like passing out I wouldn't worry and get mw to check iron levels next time you go.

Thanks everyone. I've made an appointment to get my blood pressure checked so hopefully it is nothing serious. Oh, the worries of being pregnant :)

Could it be the way you're sitting? Like if you are maybe leaning forwards a bit? Do you get the same thing with lying on your back? There's a main vein that runs through your abdomen to your head and it could be that you're bunp is restricting it with the way you are sitting. I used to get this when I was larger and it stopped when I lost weight but came back when I was pregnant with my ds.

It did happen when I moved in my chair so that could be it. I will try to sit more straight.

I had this for most of the first trimester and still happens now. But I run a low BP anyway. Make sure you've had plenty to eat and especially drink. Hope you feel better soon.
