Anti D

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and A rhesus negative. Decided to find out husbands blood group and he is A rhesus negative which means ill need to have anti d injections.

Anyone have any experience of this? How many injections, side effects, anything need to happen after the birth etc?

Sorry, husband is a rhesus positive. I am negative.

I need the Anti-D too - I'm booked in to have it in 10 days at 28 weeks which I think is the standard time to have it. Have you booked in for one?

You're supposed to also have it at any point in your pregnancy where your blood might have mixed with the baby's so if you have a bleed, or a car crash, or a bad knock of some sort, ring for another appointment. They will then check the baby's blood group at birth and give you a top up jab if baby is positive (no need if they turn out to be negative I believe).

From other threads I've seen it can sometimes be a bit painful but not heard of any side effects. So another jab to add to the flu jab and whooping cough jab over the next couple of weeks - how lovely!

its nothing to worry about i had it yesterday. its put in your bum cheek though. i felt fine after she said to hang around for ten mins just to make sure.

I had mine in my arm at 28 weeks. The MW put a tiny line in as I needed blood tests at the same time and it was easier than jabbing me several times. I didn't feel it at all (and I am a wimp) and had no side effects either.

I had it at 28 weeks in the top of my arm - depends on which hospital.

Didn't hurt at all and no side effects. They also take bloods to check there are no antibodies present.

I think we'll get given another one after the birth.

28 weeks is the norm. You'll also need to have another jab after the baby is born.

You also need to get an Anti-D jab if you have a fall or bang your bump really hard. I had an extra jab two weeks ago after I foolishly slipped over in a puddle.
