Neg test but no period and cramping

I know I'm posting too early but there's something about not knowing that makes me terribly frustrated.
We've been TTC and I'm sort of a week overdue. Test is negative but it is early days.
Warning: TMI ahead.
I have been getting a very slight brown discharge and I've had very painful cramps.
Ive never had this normally prior to a period and I didn't have it with DS.
I know its early but this sound familar to anyone?

I get those symptoms at the start of my period, you will know in a day or so.

Sorry, I should clarify. I usually get it before I'm due but only for a day or so, not so long. This has been going on 8 days now and its a lot more painful than usual.

sounds like pregnancy is a possibility then, did you do your test in the morning?

8 days of discharge-that does sound different to a period, have you tested again today OP?
