Massive bleed at 12 weeks- Large Haematoma-hospital cant say what the outcome will be :-(

I was hoping for some advice/support/experiences on what has just happened to me please :-(

Last Saturday I was sitting on the sofa & out of nowhere (no pain/no spotting- nothing) I felt a huge GUSH & was pouring with bright red blood. I went straight to the toilet & it was pouring out of me like a tap on full..... then came the huge PIECES of (what I thought was my baby)- some were as large as 2-3 inchs.
I was taken straight to A&E and took the pieces with me as advised & they too agreed that it seemed I had suffered a miscarriage.
I was sent up to the ward who examined the pieces & to my amazement they said it wasent the fetus- just huge clots. So they decided to do a scan to see what was going on & even they were shocked to find a healthy baby moving around with a nice healthy heartbeat?????????? I was then sent home on complete bed rest & told the baby could still pass away & that I had to wait untill Thursday to be rescanned & seen by the consultant (which seemed like FOREVER- not knowing if baby was dead or alive).

I had my scan Thursday & thank God my baby was still alive (I am 13 weeks now). They did see a very large Haematoma (bleed) though in my womb next to the gestational sac. The baby was completly fine & measured 67mm & the bleed measures 55x44x23mm's- so it's pretty big despite all the blood i have already lost :-(
I have been told by the consultant that he has NO IDEA of my fate.... I can still easily miscarry & if the Haematoma does shrink I am still at v high risk of pre term labour- so either way- very high risk!?? he dosent beleive in bedrest- "what will be will be" he said. But i have read on lots of sights that resting (not complete bedrest) is whats needed?
I now have to wait 3 weeks for another scan & in the meantime as so scared I will start bleeding again or lose my baby!

This is my 3rd baby- nothing like this ever happened to me before.

i have no experience in this but didn't want to read and run, i'm soo sorry for you i can imagine how stressed you are atm, iv got to agree with you i would of thought (i'm no doctor) bed rest would of been the best. i really hope things turn out ok for you. x

Hi, sorry to hear this is happening. I had similar at 11 weeks. Massive gush of blood and what continued like a really heavy period for two days. Went to a&e and they found a heartbeat and didn't seem unduly concerned.

I had a scan scheduled anyway a few days later and they find a large clot. Mine measured 98mm x 87mm x 29 mm which was fairly mahoosive! And that was after the two days of heavy bleeding.

I had another couple of weeks of brown blood and the clot shrunk at each subsequent scan.
It's now a few months later and I'm currently typing this one handed whilst feeding my DS who appears completely oblivious to all the stress I went through whilst he was inside.

I didn't get told to rest either, just not to lift anything heavy.

DS was born at 39+5. I'm surprised the consultant said you'd be "very high risk". None of the doctors I saw were concerned about any further complications once the clot had shrunk. I remained "low risk" and had the homebirth that I wanted.

I have had implantation bleeds / haematomas in both of my healthy pregnancies - mine were smaller, but both were gone by the 20 week scan. With ds I didn't have bleeding, only pain around 7 weeks - hence the early scan. This time round I had some bleeding at 6 weeks. Ds is a healthy 3 and a half year old now and I am currently 36+1 with active wriggly baby in here! I totally understand your anxiety but hope the two happy stories in answer to your thread help reassure you a little. I think that resting is good, but there is no evidence to show that bed rest will alter the outcome which is why your consultant was blase about it. There is certainly no harm in taking things fairly easy though. All the best x

I don't know how large mine was but I also had a sudden horrible 'tearing' feeling followed by huge gush of blood and subsequent scan showed haematoma. I had had small bleeds previously and went on to have a lot of brown bleeds (old blood from the haematoma that slowly makes its way out. Rest of pregnancy went fine. Happy healthy baby. Xx

I don't know how large mine was but I also had a sudden horrible 'tearing' feeling followed by huge gush of blood and subsequent scan showed haematoma. I had had small bleeds previously and went on to have a lot of brown bleeds (old blood from the haematoma that slowly makes its way out. Rest of pregnancy went fine. Happy healthy baby. Xx

I wanted to ask you all- did you feel SORE inside after the bleed? Im asking this because I feel so tender & sore inside. When i sit on a chair i feel a real uncomfortable pressure & discomfort down below & feel like im about 8 months pregnant as bump just seems so tight & uncomfortable & just really tender?

I was in the park today & got talking to a complete stranger & it turns out she lost her baby last week at 15 weeks- she said she had to terminate for medical reasons. She said she had a massive bleed at 12 weeks & it was then worked out what her baby had an abnormality a couple of weeks later.
she said that her consultant at a specialist hospital (Addenbrooks) told her that most ladies who get a huge bleed out of the blue & have a large heamatoma inside -that there is usually an abnormality with the baby and the bleed is natures way of trying to expel the baby but some hold on despite this :-O

I was soooo upset & shocked as this hadent even entered into my head- but now I cannot stop thinking about it??!?

I have a different theory
Theory - the baby is hyperactive and v strong and this causes part of the placenta to get bashed about. I base this on ds2 who has never stopped moving, wriggling, kicking and jumping around from the moment I could feel him til now!
Concentrate on my theory!
Seriously, there are those of us out here who've had healthy babies after these kinds of bleeds. It's not all doom and gloom. Such a shame that woman felt she had to share that with you. Hope you are doing ok today

Thats utter nonsense.( What the woman I'm the park said. Not you merci!)

If your body had to expel a baby, it wouldn't need a haematoma to do it. It would just miscarry in the normal way. None of the doctors I saw seemed unduly concerned with my bleeding. Because they see lots of woman with haematomas and most of them go on to have healthy babies. Myself included.

Stay away from random women in parks!

I thought i should update this thread.
I had another large bleed at 16 weeks- after 2 days- bleeding stopped and scan of baby was fine.... I rested so much- didnt bend-lift go out,,,just rested.

3 weeks went by and no more bleeding & i used my DOPPLER every day to reassure myself.... then last week the worst happened. I dopplered Monday morning- all was fine 152BPM... didnt feel happy tho that day- felt something was wrong (no blood or any reason to think- just a feeling) so dopplered again Monday evening & there was no heartbeat. Midwife came next morning- nothing ......got refered for urgent scan- my baby had died.
I am totally devestated & confused as I thought if he went it would be when I had a bleed?? he was perfect size for dates too- so whatever caused him to die happened suddenly on Monday????????????????
I was induced & gave birth last Thursday at 2pm to my beautiful boy Matthew-weighing 170g & 15.5 crown to rump.

I am so confused as to WHY & await lots of blood results and his post mortem. The fact that a loss at this gestation is less than 1% chance just makes me even more devestated....I just want him back & want to know WHY

I had exactly same experience with my DC at 13 weeks and continued to have heavy spotting on and off until 20 weeks. At this point had another moderate bleed and was admitted to the anti natal ward and diagnosed with pregnancy induced high blood pressure & severe anaemia ( neither of which was assoc with the bleeding). Bleeding pretty much stopped at this stage and I was forced to spend much of the rest of the pregnancy on enforced rest due to blood pressure.
My DS arrived at 36 weeks by ECS. As with a previous post he never stops moving is very active and sporty now so maybe there is something in that theory.
I too was amazed that they found him still healthy on the scan. Two hours before I had the bleed at 13 weeks I had a nucal fold scan done by a consultant. I had a copy of the scan and when they looked at it there was no sign of bleeding at this point. They obviously happen very suddenly.

I am so sorry for your loss I hope you are ok. Thank you for sharing your story even though the outcome is so tragic.

You are brave to share and l really hope you are getting the support you need and can grieve as you need to.

I have been advised we are very high risk after spending last week in
Hospital with a bleed I am 23 weeks and counting every day your experience has convinced me to take it easy and not do too much although I don't know if it will make any difference.

I am so sorry for your loss I wish I could offer you some advice or comfort but instead hopefully I'll just bump this up the thread so someone wiser and more experienced than me can post.
