Anyone had any funny /annoying comments from people who clearly think its ok to comment on size of bump / bum / general appearance etc......I find people think its ok to comment on everything about how your body is changing ( yes I have noticed thanks ! ) .... I don't think they mean to be offensive / rude etc ...but just feel the need to say something as though the only topic of conversation is now the shape/size of bump !!!
Funny stories ( and replies) welcome

My friend keeps telling me how busty I am looking. I actually went and measured myself incase I was wearing the wrong size bra. Nope still a 36A Grin

titchy77 · 26/09/2012 08:52

It really makes me cross when complete strangers say how small my bump is! And when people ask if you have any names & you tell them & they then go "ooh no I don't like that it reminds me of a dogs name etc!" Angry

We went away for a few days on our last trip as a twosome before baby comes and upon arrival at the B&B, when DH mentioned I was preggers (he has a tendency to announce it to all and sundry!), the owner asked me how far along I was. When I replied I was almost 7 months, he gasped and proceeded to say: "Oh, I would have sworn you were 5 1/2 tops. You're going to have a small baby"!!!
I was so upset (and besides, the B&B was rubbish) that we decided to leave the following morning by which time he decided to shout to his wife upon seeing me: "look how small she is for 7 months!!!" Arghhh...

HappySurfWidow · 26/09/2012 09:01

I'm 27 weeks along now and had all of the above comments and unwanted belly-touching, which are SOOOO annoying, but I must admit that the thing that has cheesed me off the most was a recent text message from a friend.

She drove past me as I was leisurely cycling along a bike-lane to collect my son from his childminder (10mins ride from home) and 30 mins later I get a text telling me that I shouldn't be riding a bike and that she was gobsmacked I'd even consider it given how dangerous it is.... I was like Hmm

I don't tell people how to live their lives, so I can't understand why as soon as your pregnant some people start telling you what to do and how to do it. What business is it of theirs if I decide to go on an easy bike-ride on a sunny afternoon?

Arrrghhhh! (Rant over!) Grin

sundaesundae · 26/09/2012 09:10

Doodle, i have had the "Is it twins?" "Are you sure your're only 14 weeks?" and the tubs and the Jemima. I didn't get the Jemima till you posted it! I don't like being touched at the best of times so nervous of people wanting to cop a feel, BIL did it when I was 10 weeks, erm that is just my stomach you are touching!

sparklekitty · 26/09/2012 10:34

At around 25 weeks a woman at work started to call me podgy. Now I could possibly take this if it wasn't from a woman who is so fat she has to have a special seat as she can't get into the ones with arms on them Angry

I was quite small before pregnancy and I reckon she was a little gleeful that I was getting bigger. Still annoying tho.

BonaDea · 26/09/2012 10:52

I just told one of the guys at work that I am pregnant and he had the cheek to ask "so were you pregnant when you got married then?". I mean, HOW RUDE!!! For the record - although it of course doesn't matter - I got pregnant on honeymoon, but imagine saying that to a colleague at work.

I think by the time people start commenting on my appearance I will be ready to pummel someone!

RPosieB · 26/09/2012 10:54

AbbyRue I'm so sorry but that made me laugh aloud! How did you restrain yourself from smacking them in the face??!

celebmum · 26/09/2012 11:17

Yesterday I had to have an 'emergency scan' at 37wks as there was some concern re baby/bump not growing... (Turned out to be nothing and all is on track!)

....then this morning SIL walks in and exclaims in high pitched voice 'OMG you're huge!!!'

I can't win! Grin

1stbabyat30 · 26/09/2012 11:32

Most of these are horrifying - I must have these to come. I havent had anything bad yet - when i told my cousin i was half way through she said "oh, youre not showing very much" which I was very very happy about. Generally people have said I have lost weight (as I have halved my calories not being able to drink alcohol). But last night I said to my boyfriend "can you see my belly from this angle?" and he said "yes, you can see it from all angles"
men eh?!

DawnOfTheDee · 26/09/2012 11:41

I had a huge bump (DD was 10lb 10oz Shock) and got loads of stupid comments. My favourite come back was "Fuck off or i'll sit on you" Grin

panicnotanymore · 26/09/2012 12:44

My H announced yesterday 'you look fatter every time I see you'. I was strangely proud.

AnneH656 · 26/09/2012 13:04

oh yes! i can relate to most of these!

my personal favourite was being asked by a colleague that i hardly knew if this child was by the same father as my first child (based on the 9 year age gap i hope...)

i did snap one day. it was late in the day and the air con wasnt working in the office. i had to visit another colleague (again - one who i hardly know and def not socially). she asked me how far i was. i told her 20 weeks to which she responded 'but your HUUUGE'. instead of smiling i stopped, turned back and said 'why would you say that to someone? for a start - no i am not. my midwife confirmed i am measuring fine..(i then kept going into a mega rant ending with) - in the future dont day such things to other pregnant women. we are dealing with enough with hormones and own self image to not have to listen to people like you'

she never spoke to me again.

she is quite ugly. i never pointed that out

dawnofthedee hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VickyU · 26/09/2012 13:46

OMG I have had so many of these. I'm 20 weeks and the other day my Dad's nurse said 'You're enormous! You want to hope that's just the baby!' I couldn't believe it. I mean I was a size 10 and have put on about 9 pounds which I am already a bit paranoid about. An even more outrageous one happened on the weekend while I was at a wedding. A male friend of mine who I have known since childhood said 'Me and the boys always used to take the piss out of the size of your thighs when we were teenagers, at least now you are in proportion!' Unbelievable!

Also completely agree about how annoying it is that people feel they can just touch you like you are suddenly public property. I don't mind my closest friends and family touching my bump but not people I hardly know. But then again, before I was pregnant I used to think it was so weird that pregnant women got annoyed about these things!

Spice17 · 26/09/2012 13:57

My mums husband asked me if I'm going on a diet when the baby's born and my mum said I'll really see where I've put the weight on when the bump's gone - thanks!

BonaDea · 26/09/2012 14:55

My best friend (BEST FRIEND) said the other day - "oh, it's good that your bump is small at them moment and you havne't put on much beef yet because it'll be easier to shift afterwards".

Believe it or not, in the meantime I'm more concerned about getting me and my baby through this process healthy and alive, meeting my first child, wondering whether it's a boy or girl, choosing a name, successfully breastfeeding la la la. Losing weight at the end of it is really the farthest thing from my mind!

Glad you mentioned that one Spice as I felt really disappointed when she said that!!

Boop33 · 26/09/2012 18:31

Thanks for all these hunnies and keep em coming ! sounds like we are all putting up with the same ...........but it does amuse me to read them some people are so thick it astounds me! please think before you speak .I have never ( and certainly will never!!) comment on people like they are not human. My friend has been calling me fatty for ages and i know its only meant in jest but it is now just ANNOYING !!! particularly as i am getting quite big now (34+ 4) and hes a bloke ! I do keep telling people that i am measuring right for my dates ( whether they seem to think too big or too small). Another woman at work is preggers and people also seem to think its ok to compare our bumps in minute detail - 'kills two birds with one stone' I guess .............................

The only thing I ever say to pregnant friends is "you look beautiful" - because they do, regardless of bump size, weight gain, spots etc. They might not feel it but it's certainly better than commenting on their appearance.

At a time when a lot of women are at their most vulnerable and/or fed up, there is never an appropriate comment to make other then they look fab. And for the love of God never ask if it's twins. Why would ANYONE think its appropriate to ask that?

Having said that, I never had anyone comment on my bump and only one person that I didn't know gave my bump a rub and she was 5 so it didn't count. I was quite upset but it must be cos I had "fuck off" stamped on my forehead so nobody ever commented.

Rowanhart · 26/09/2012 20:33

Just to temper the meanies just thought I'd share a nice one. Hope this oesnt come across as a stealth brag..,

I bought a la senza bra and knickers set for hols and to make myself feel less Ming after the "hello fatty" remarks.

Was rubbing oil in my belly tonight wearing it and DH said "You look smashing." before squinting massively (eyes practically shut) and adding "if I look at you like this I can barely tell you're pregnant." Grin

Made me feel a bit more human. Not true, but very kind!

ilovecolinfirth · 26/09/2012 20:42

I got told by a rather large woman at work "I like standing next to you because it makes me feel better about my own figure" !!

ilovecolinfirth · 26/09/2012 20:46

Mind you, I also got stopped by a complete stranger 4 days before I gave birth. She said "just wanted to let you know you look really lovely"
