....I am 39+1 today but growing a very very big baby which means I have only until sunday to go into labour naturally otherwise they want a c section which I would prefer not to do. Babys head is 4/5 engaged so sort of ready! Any tips on ways to get labour going that actually have worked for you?!?!

Thanks!!

xx

Sorry Badgerina, they were delicious too!

Ate a pinesapple yesterday, thought it had brought on my labour on as had a really hard bump and horrible back ache for about 2 hours and couldn't get comfortable - turned out to be bad bloating and wind (as I later found out!) REALLY WOULDN'T RECOMMEND!

I went for a long walk with one foot on the pavement and one in the gutter (looking like a heavily-pregnant loon). Old wives will tell you it opens the pelvis and so gets the baby's head stimulating the cervix. No idea whether this is true or whether it was just my time but I was getting mild but steady contractions by the time I arrived home and baby was born about 6 hours later.

Long walk up a few very steep hills?

Orenishii · 25/09/2012 19:39

fridakahlo thank god you explained about the Evening Primrose Oil! I would never, EVER have figured out what to do. So, ummmm, do you just leave them up there then? Do they dissolve by themselves or do you find capsule carcasses in your knickers? HAHAHAHA! (Lost the plot at 37 weeks.)

I've heard clary sage oil works a treat - either in a base oil for a massage or in your bath. I think they say not to use it before 38 weeks?

A question - when you do start trying to evacuate baby? I'd have not thought about it too seriously until reaching due date but some of you hardcore mamas are starting at 38?

PollyIndia · 25/09/2012 21:06

I have been doing this for a week or so orenishii and not found any case carcasses in the morning so assume they are dissolving. I am just doing 1 x 1300 mg epo then also 2x 1300 mg orally. Not sure of it does anything orally or not....

DD1 was born at 41+6 and I'd tried everything to get it moving, with no joy.

Am 37+6 with no 2 and still BFing DD1, and I get huuuge braxton-hicks whenever she has a feed. This is twice a day for about 15 mins, so I would suggest that if you're going to try the nipple thingy you might need a good breast pump session. I am yet to find out if they can be converted into real contractions (but I bloody hope so as she has recently turned head dwon and is causing me all manner of grief!): I'm quite sure DD2 will also hang on in there for another month though, no matter how much prodding she gets.

fridakahlo · 26/09/2012 12:57

The empty capsules do turn up in your knickers but as empty shrivelled things.
In my first pregnancy, I started trying to shift her from my due date, in my second, I started from thirty eight weeks.

Anyone had any experience of reflexology or acupuncture? If so, which one would you recommend?

fridakahlo · 26/09/2012 15:40

Reflexology did nothing but I had it done at thirty seven weeks so it's quite possible that if my body had been more ready it would have done more.
Acupuncture I had to, labour was not near enough to see a correlation but I did hsve some strong Braxton Hicks in the afternoon after my second session. If you manage to keep stimulating the points, once your done, there could be a more cumulative effect. It can be hard to do though if the points are on places likr your feet!

Osteopath, acupuncture, sweep, I don't know which of the 3 worked but I went for all of them and within 3 days, had my baby. Good luck

I'm 40+2 today and have reflexology - bouncing on my ball at mo, but don't feel much different, although my feet are lovely and soft!
