My dp'd friends wife is 37+ weeks at the weekend her bump drastically droped & is now all sitting very low, she has been to the midwife this morning & has been told the head is fully engaged, how long do you think she has left can it stay like this for 3 weeks or will birth be round the corner?

It could still be weeks.

biglips · 20/03/2006 15:36

sounds like any day now... but it could be in couple weeks time she'll have the baby

tell her to get her bag ready and good luck!

biglips · 20/03/2006 15:37

she may carry it till she is 42/ 43 weeks pg - never know!

Gillian76 · 20/03/2006 15:37

If it's a first baby, AFAIR it can be fully engaged for a week or two.

Her hubby has just called me to ask, he says she is so so uncomfortable & of course they are very excited just hope its sooner rather than later for her sake.

in my last pregnancy the baby's head engaged on 5 November and he was born on 12 December. sigh

biglips · 20/03/2006 15:39

my DD's head was fully engaged and dropped when i was 36 weeks pg but had an induction at 42 weeks

picnikel · 20/03/2006 15:40

My bump dropped & I was fully engaged at 36 weeks. Went into labour 5 weeks later....Not the most comfortable 5 weeks either!

Both ds and dd were engaged by 37 weeks, both born 2 weeks late (12 and 14 days respectively).

MrsDoolittle · 20/03/2006 15:51

My first baby engaged at 37 weeks, it was another 4 before she was born! And I spent every one of them thinking "It's going to happen tonight"!!

MrsDoolittle · 20/03/2006 15:53

Oh 2nd baby is different. They can bump in and out for a couple of weeks. That has just happened to me.
My newest stretch marks are just above my pubis Grrr

mum2oneandonemore · 20/03/2006 15:55

Just read that article very interesting thanks for that. Smile

She does not want anything to happen before friday as her family are flying over from abroad and she would like them to be here so she is tryingt o last till then! not that you have a choice Smile

Lots of warm baths and paracetamol for all those niggly pains - that will slow things down in the early stages Smile

biglips · 20/03/2006 15:58

how long is her family staying in UK?

mum2oneandonemore · 20/03/2006 16:03

Not sure biglips probaby a long while though they have a house here to i think Smile

this happened to me at 35 weeks with dd2

she was a week late, sorry

biglips · 20/03/2006 16:04

hope they will hang around for a bit as i said it could be any day or many weeks to go!

does your friend know shes having a girl or boy?

mum2oneandonemore · 20/03/2006 16:11

Well her first was a girl & she has been told 70% that this one is a girl too, they really dont mind either way.

The only thing that makes me think it may be sooner rather than later is because she says she "feels" her body is telling her she is ready & its "time" sooo maybe......

...or maybe not!! Grin
