That's it really.

Took folic acid before pregnancy and during 1st trimester off and on...

I am worried now.

Not necessarily. Spina bifida is rare and it is even less likely that your baby has it and it wasn't picked up at the 12 week scan.

I've never heard of being tested for folic acid though!

Thank you. Think it's part of a range of tests - its written in the box.

Then I really wouldn't worry. Blood tests are routine at 16 weeks (where I am anyway).

What are the blood tests for? Are there any worries?

I tire easily, and a few other symptoms. When at the Dr today I had a raised heart rate (he listen and said that sounded fine) and a temp. When Dr looked at previous bloods he said blood count is dropping so I might be anaemic so I think that's what they're looking for.

Folate is one of the things you need to make blood cells. If you're a bit anaemic, you're doc will look for that, plus iron levels and other stuff. Not really to do with your baby. Hth

And if my folate levels are low that won't have caused any harm to them?

Thank you. Putting my mind at rest. GP sent me home and said no work till results are back.
