Stokke Xplory Carrycot - should I get one?

Maybe someone can advise me. I ordered a new Stokke Xplory V3 with a really big discount, so had to do it. Only caveat is that it does not come with a carrycot but has an insert into the normal seat for a newborn. I am a bit worried that this is just not ideal for a newborn, especially over winter. Should I get the carrycot separately or do you think I can get away without it, without economising on baby's health? Has anyone used the seat insert from birth?

I liked the carry cot for DD, but new DS hates it and perhaps would like the seat unit better so I might try it. It's nice and snug with the cosy toes. I don't know really. Crap advice! I don't think you'd be compromising on health.

We didn't buy the carrycot but the seat lays completely flat and our 6month old loves it.

I got it off a shop on ebay but new. They had limited colours but I wanted navy anyway. There are quite a few good deals on still there of you just type "stokke". I hope it turns out ok but at £400/500 less I could not resist. Otherwise, after days of research I found BabyBoom2000 online the cheapest. But I don't need car seat/footmuff/changing bag etc....so not looking for those full packages...

PetaO did your baby start using it from birth? or would you have put them in there from birth? Thanks

I used the carrycot on the pram for as long as I could squeeze them into it downstairs as an additional bed. It was well worth it, but I didn't buy the special sheets - moses basket sheets and blankets work just as well.

I used the carrycot as that is the package I ended up with. I think if it says you can use the seat from birth then I wouldnt worry about it. My DD went into the seat at around 4 months. However she was born in June. The only thing I woukd say is that the carrycot is far more protective against bad weather. If you are going to use the seat from birth during winter I would think you would definitely need the footmuff. It is so snug and zips and toggles up right around their face. The seat is not that deep so im not sure a blanket would be sufficient. Not sure what you had in mind for covers...

I've got the stokke carry cot and my 4 month old loves it. I think it's very nice because there's no need to harness the baby. He spends enough time all strapped in in his car seat and high chair (stokke Tripp trapp with newborn set - a brilliant buy for us as it gets baby off floor and away from dog)
We also use it as a place for him to nap downstairs. I also didn't buy the special sheets, ordinary cot sheets have been fine.
I'm planning to change from the carry cot to the ordinary seat next month when we get back from holiday in Scotland, I want him to sleep in the carry cot in the hotel rather than use the hotel's cots or buy a travel cot.

I've got the carrycot and my 4 week old loves it. Means if we come back from a walk he can stay snoozing in it when we come in if he's still asleep and I don't need to worry about his back.
I don't think it's an absolute nescessity but is really nice to have. Think you could probably get one on eBay a bit cheaper maybe?
The stokke is wonderful - get so many compliments on it and its super easy to use and manoeuvre.
