Hi there,

this is my 1st post and 1st pregnancy. Had my first doctors app yesterday and she asked me to straight to a&e for an early scan as she was worried I could have an ectopic pg. however after a lengthy internal scan and a couple of consultants later, it appears there a two little babies growing in there!! Complete shock as I was originally going tithe hospital expecting to hear the worst!!

It is a risky pregnancy as the consultant suspects that they are monoamniotic / monochorionic meaning they share a placenta, share the amniotic bag etc so there is a risk of getting tangled up or one being more greedy than the other! I'm only about 5 weeks so still wary even if there was one baby but this is even more nerve wracking / exciting!

Any twins advice would be greatly received!!

MOMO twins are much riskier in pregnancy than MCDA ones. But they are also much rarer and chances are yours are the less risky type it is just to early to be sure. The thing to keep in mind is that most ID twins come through pregnancy without any major problems - it is easy to lose sight of that when you are in the middle of it.

Hope you aren't feeling too sick yet - I was much worse with my twins compared to my singleton, but it only lasted a few weeks thankfully.

aw thank you. luckily i'm actually feeling fine - my one and only sick morning so far was on friday morning after i had a shower, but i hadn't slept a wink and so i am now trying my best to sleep as much as possible and get early nights. Each morning I wake up expecting to have my head down the loo but not 'yet'.

Hi My id twin boys are now eight. The doctors found it very difficult to see the membrane and still were not totally sure after the twenty week scan. My situation was the exact same as yours - I went in with early bleeding and it turned out to be twins. I had no difficulties except early morning sickness.

Twins are great.....I actually found it easier when they were babies, than as they grew older. They entertain each other. I now have a toddler girl and its so easy having a singleton! enjoy it - you will be centre of attention for the next couple of years.

Congratulations. I have 2 sets of twins 1 set are identical girls are 4 and non identical boys are 1, we have a singleton too who is 5.

You will get lots and lots of extra scans which is nice but I found unconfy by the end!!

2 sets of twins!!?? oh my you really are a supermum!! wow that's amazing! i began feeling pretty queasy today and need match sticks to keep my eyes open. unfortunately i'm not sleeping terribly well which makes me even more sleepy during the day zzzzz. went to the gym after work tonight so hopefully i might sleep better tonight.

thanks again for all your advice and well wishes, just wish i could fastforward the calender!

Wow, when I had a scan at 5 weeks they could only see something about the size of a grain of rice - I'm amazed they could tell you so much.

Congratulations

janiewoozle · 25/09/2012 20:56

yes well hey said they thought i might be about 5 weeks but could be a bit more - i had 50 day cycles so very difficult to work out exactly until the next few scans when they can measure properly. the amniotic sac was bigger than it would be normally due to there being 2 little uns in there so hopefully they will be able to be a bit more exact soon :o)

i have monoamniotic / monochorionic twin boys who will be 3 in dec, it also was a complete shock, but my pregnancy was fine they just do more scans to check them and you.
congrautlations :) hope it all goes well, it is hard to begin with but it does get easier and i went on to have a dd and i am pregnant again :) so i'll have 4 under 4

janiewoozle · 01/10/2012 16:10

hi girls, just a little update after my second scan which i had this morning. unfortunately it seems that one of the little babies hasn't grown since my last scan 10 days ago and the little one that had grown didn't have a visible heartbeat. they have asked me to come back next monday for another scan but have also warned that it is possible that i may miscarry before then. totally devastated, as we had totally got our heads around having two little babies.

this week is going to be totally horrendous as i feel like i'm now just waiting for a miscarriage. but i just have to keep remembering that it was always going to be a small chance of survival, and there are a lot of people out there with much worse circumstances.

janiewoozle · 04/10/2012 18:10

hi girls, thank you for your kind words. i went privately to see a specialist yesterday as i was going out of my mind and no way could wait until monday to know what was happening. unfortunately i was admitted to hospital to have the dreaded medical miscarriage procedure this morning. it's been a devastating week and it will certainly take some time for us to get over this. i always try to be as positive as possible and i know that everything happens for a reason, and thankfully the little ones decided sooner rather than later that they couldn't carry on. i can't imagine how difficult it would have been to go through this further down the line. will just take my time to get all my tears out and take it easy.

oh janie, i'm so sorry to hear that :(

janiewoozle · 06/10/2012 17:25

thank you everyone. one minute i think i'm totally fine then the next i just get a wave of sadness and can't help but have a cry. i just don't know when to go back to work as i often have to deal with awkward customers with complaints and it could just take one nasty phone call and i'd be in bits. hopefully i'll pick myself up soon.

xx
