Hi, I am off work due to ridiculously bad morning sickness.
Watched everything I have already, so though lovefilm or netflix would be a good idea.

Has anyone used either/both and can advise me which to sign up for?

Price after free months trial is v similar for only online streaming: lovefilm £5, netflix £6

(Posting this in pregnancy as thought someone here might be in the same position)

thanks in advance

Lovefilm is shit! They don't have anything new on Instant and very little worth watching.

Netflix is slightly better but again not great. I'd say get on 4OD and watch some good old Telly :o

coronalover · 20/09/2012 19:51

Hi, sorry about your hideous morning sickness, hope it passes soon.

I used to have lovefilm but got fed up with the crap selection you get by post (didn't bother trying to stream) but now switched to netflix. I don't think there's much in it as long as you've got a decent internet connection.

Sign up for either one quick though in case your morning sickness gets better Smile

Nagoo · 20/09/2012 19:53

netflix and cane 24 and Prison break for your free trial :)

Kafri · 20/09/2012 19:54

Hey,
We've tried both!! Personally I prefer Netflix but it depends what you're streaming through. Love film can't be streamed through iPad directly through the tv but there is an app on PS and Xbox.
I have settled on Netflix as I have Apple TV (which again doesn't stream love film)
On the other hand, lovefilm does hve better search utility - u can search a specific actor as well as the usual film titles.
Lovefilm (officially) has a bigger catalogue but I can't say bat flux is short of choice and with more being added all the time it's increasing and to be fair it's not far behind lovefilm in quantity anyway.

One thing to bear in mind-if ur after new releases then neither of the streaming services is what ur after as neither offers new releases to watch. You would have to pay for a bigger package with lovefilm and have new releases by post (which we have also tried and really didn't get on with).

Overall, I went for Netflix through Apple TV as it has Netflix on it but gives me the option of paying for new releases through iTunes. Having said that, I'm an apple geek and have loads of apple stuff so depends on whether you want to pay out for something like Apple TV.

I would go for netflix, but check how it will affect your phone bill / download charges. We got an unexpected £80 bill from BT as we exceeded out download limit. We've now moved to sky and have unlimited downloads so can watch as much as we want.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2012 19:55

Love film is shite! Seriously, it has more but that's because it's filled to the brim with crap that probably cost nothing to make and they delete stuff that's been on it ages, wait a couple of weeks and put it back up as "newly added". Hmm

Netflix is great but doesn't have as much but the movies are mostly cinema released stuff. If you are okay with being a bit sneaky, American Netflix is even better and has about 10 times the amount of stuff on it as the UK one... Wink

CaptainHetty · 20/09/2012 19:55

Lovefilm instant is pants. I have a Lovefilm subscription for games and I get 4 hours streaming, we hardly ever use it and they hardly ever add anything that I've ever heard of.

Netflix slightly better but still, sometimes the choice is a bit lacking. If you access it on a games console apparently you can change your settings and access the american version which has a lot more choice on it. Not entirely sure how, though, I never looked into it and cancelled my subscription in the end.

I use iPlayer and 4OD a lot more.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2012 19:58

Captain If you decide to get it back, I know how to do it and the difference in library size is mental. Even with TV shows.

Nagoo · 20/09/2012 20:01

if you want to use my promo code for lovefilm hk6yhregb that would be sweet Thanks [cheekybitch]

milktraylady · 20/09/2012 20:05

Wow thanks for the info Smile
We've been thinking of apple tv for a while, so might look into that.

Looks like Netflix is more popular.

Tho I didn't think of 4od & iplayer. We don't have a clever telly so can only watch on laptop, but that's ok- I can watch in bed Grin with cat cuddling.

Replies muchos appreciatedos

Get a cheap xbox, will obviously work on any telly. If you subscribe to live (internet on it, it doesn't cost much) You get 4od, iplayer, 5od and some other bits, then you can get netflix or lovefilm on it as well. I don't even have a DVD player anymore or even freeview on my TV now as Netflix is my friend and because of this don't need a TV licence so it actually saves money! :)

milktraylady · 20/09/2012 20:27

Cor Mew that's a good idea- Xbox.
Hmmmm

I have both - we watch Netflix on the telly through the Wii or on the iPad (Lovefilm through the iPad app).

The kids prefer Netflix because of the cartoons and Mythbusters. I prefer Lovefilm as I watch a lot of foreign films and think they've got a terrific selection that I would never have seen otherwise - they do need to update their content more frequently though.

Netflix is good for American tv series though, but I've got most of them on DVD box set. Doh!

DowagersHump · 20/09/2012 20:36

Netflix is instant and you can cancel anytime. Lovefilm for £5 is shit. I watch netflix through the wii and am catching up on loads of series I missed entirely and some that I missed the odd episode of (Lewis Blush)

Lora1982 · 20/09/2012 21:35

i think youve definatly been told here! im for netflix too. i watch everything through the xbox to avoid tv license too.

Angelico · 20/09/2012 21:38

2 questions:

How do you avoid tv license thanks to XBox?

How do you get sneaky American Netflix? :o

Nagoo · 20/09/2012 22:10

you don't need a tv licence if you watch programmes after broadcast. If you stream live you need a licence.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2012 22:14

AFAIK you would need to be watching it on a games console to use American. You change the DNS setting (the built in settings that say where in the world you are) to the US DNS settings. :) Tis brilliant!

And what Nagoo said, you only need a TV license if you are watching tv as it is being broadcast.
