I saw a doctor at the hospital today, I'm 15+5. I've have weird horizontal ridges on my thumb nails which I've has before but have gotten worse since being pg. she said it is usually a sign of vitamin deficiency. Has anyone had this? I'm panicking now.

I've had it but in my case it seems to happen when I pick at my cuticles Blush. I have been told it arises from nail bed damage. Sorry that's not much use.

Flaking/weak nails or white spots on them can be caused by vit deficiency but I hadn't heard that about ridges.

What supplements are you taking?

Hi mini pie I'm taking pregnacare. I have read something about the nail ridges being something to do with folate or vitamin B12 deficiency which has terrified me.

Had a quick google. Yes vit B is mentioned but stress is also a common cause. If you are taking pregnacare I'd be surprised if you were lacking tbh. Is the doctor going to do any tests or did she suggest and extra supplements?

She suggested checking my iron levels but I've just had that done and it was ok. She just said "don't worry about it for now". It's the "for now" bit that got me worried.
