Fundal height panic

I know the fundal height measurement isn't always the most reliable indicator, but I was wondering if I was right to be a little concerned after an appointment with the midwife yesterday.

At my 28-week check I measured 31cms and was asked if big babies ran in the family - to which I replied yes, they do. Myself and all of my siblings were all more than 9lb, so this didn't seem like a problem.

I was then measured again at 31 weeks and measured 32cms, and I thought it was odd to have only "grown" 1cm in three weeks. Anyway, the midwife didn't seem concerned so I put it out of my head.

Then, yesterday, I was measured again - still 32cms, at 34+2. So, according to their measurements, the bump has only grown 1cm in six weeks.

Should I be worried about this or asking for more checks to ensure the baby is still growing properly? Even though the heartbeat sounded okay yesterday, and I've still been having regular movements, I'm panicking a little.

Any advice is much appreciated...

Do you know the position of the baby? My dc2 was back to back and I hardly had any bump when I was lying down getting measured, When I was 41 weeks my bump was measuring 32 weeks, the midwife was never worried as she could feel the size of the baby with her hands although she did think dc2 would be be a 'really small' baby, he was actually bigger than dc1 when she was born.

Thanks for that, I hadn't considered that the way he was lying could make a difference.
I don't know the position of the baby, apart from that he's head down and his feet are currently lodged somewhere in my ribcage, on the right hand side.
I haven't been told if he's back to back or not.

I also feel like he's started to drop over the last three days or so, as I'm getting much more pressure on my bladder - but the midwife seemed to think not, and said she could still feel the outline of his head. This is my first baby and I'm pretty clueless!

I was going to say it might make a difference if baby has dropped/is engaging. My measurements have been all over the place, over weeks, under weeks, even more confusing after a scan to say baby in on 97th centile for size!

I really wouldn't worry too much.

I wouldnt worry too much if I were you - my third baby was measuring 5cm over between 28 and 34 wks (I was sent for growth scan where she was found to be spot on 50th percentile). Then I didnt appear to grow from 34wks til end of preg according to fundal height, but my lovely experienced midwife said she could tell baby was right size / growing fine, she had just moved position and was lying transverse which was mucking up the fundal height measurement.

If you're worried, mention to your midwife...I'm sure she is experienced & knows all is fine, but just needs to reassure you of that. I had several midwifes measure my fundal height in a short space of time with my 3rd and they all measured totally differently anyway - its really a rough gauge to be used in conjunction with other factors, not a measurement to be taken & read all on its own.
