Fetal heartbeat and gender!!

I was wondering if anyone believes the old wives tale of fetal heartbeat telling the gender, above 140 for a girl, below for a boy! I realise these aren't accurate at all but thought it might be an interesting discussion.
I have my 20 week scan next week and am going to find out the sex! But a bit of speculation can be fun :)

I don't believe it - I've been dopplering my baby's heartbeat everyday (not because I was trying to determine the sex but as reassurance after having had several miscarriages) and the heart rate has always been over 140. Yes, we're having a boy! Grin

I don't now. My very experienced midwife predicted I was having a girl from listening to the heartbeat. I've had 3 scans since and he is most definitely a boy!!!

It was true for us. Four boys under 140 and then dd's was always much faster.

Utter crap. Ours were the opposite.

There are two ways which predict the gender at a greater rate than chance. One, seeing a penis on a scan. Two, mother's intuition oddly enough. Women guess right far more often than can be accounted for by chance. I KNEW dd was a girl, absolutely. DS I had no gut feeling either way.

I thought it was rubbish, I just have no inkling myself and I'm so excited to find out! Everyone else keeps saying girl but I have no clue!
I'll just have to wait until next Wednesday at 6pm!!! Grin

I wondered about this too, but DCs heartbeat fluctuates wildly between 130 -160 (a good sign according to mw) so wouldn't know what to predict anyway!
