Hey all!

Just checking to see if anybody else has experienced this! I lve never felt braxton hicks through this pregnancy(well at least i think i haven't) just some cramping and back ache. But today about 3:30 i had a very strong tight feeling which took my breathe away and lasted about 20 seconds, i felt it build up and peek then trail off! I haven't had anymore since, and to be fair i had just done a load of house work so maybe i over done it a little? Im due on Thursday so would just like to know if it's a sign things are going in the right directionGrin has anybody else experienced one single contraction when they had never felt anything like it before?

I had two last Tuesday, 5 mins apart, and painful enough that I had to breathe through them. I'm 36+3 now. I've since had Braxton Hicks (painless tightenings), cramps and back pain, but no more 'real' contractions. I think I'd been overdoing it (cleaning floors, carrying heavyish shopping bags) and was a bit dehydrated. At first I thought it meant things might kick off early, but I've given up on that theory now!

Maybe it is just a case of doing a bit too much then! Thanks for the reply Earnest. Won't be getting my hopes up as i am positive that bubs is going to make a very late arrivalSmile

I've had about 3 weeks of this. A few hours of irregular, quite strong contractions then nothing. Very weird, mw said it's normal. Its very frustrating.

Katienana · 18/09/2012 19:12

I'm 38+5 and have been getting contractions for the last 10 days without anything kicking off! They have been 4 mins apart and enough for me to get examined and sent home as 1cm dilated. I think the answer is it either means labour is about to start...or it doesn't. I hope for your sake it's the former!

Seems pretty common! Im sorry its not lead to anything for you ladies, i believe i'll be on the same boat as you are right enough! No signs of LO being imminent Sad going to see kevin bridges on thursday which is my due date, so who knows.. Maybe sods law will kick things off just so i miss it as i am dying to go Grin other than that it looks like the next week or two will be passing very slowly!!!

I had one of those last night, a single fairly intense contraction. I wasn't doing anything, just reading in bed.

FirstTimeMumma · 18/09/2012 20:33

Smells, its strange isnt it!

It doesn't mean much, I am afraid! Although it is reassuring that your body is limbering up! I had one about 38 weeks, took my breath away (glad noone was watching!) but didn't have DS for 3 more weeks! For me, it was def a sign that I was overdoing things.

Looking back, I kind of liked them.... (is that weird?)

terilou87 · 18/09/2012 20:41

if it is one on it own it is a braxton hicks and they can some times be painfull, they are practice contraction after all. also you can get them by doing a little too much. but seems as your due soon fingers crossed it wont be too long til lil one is here Smile

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 18/09/2012 21:00

very weird FirstTimeMumma, I stayed up for ages afterwards waiting for another, just in case things were happening. They're not Sad

PollyIndia · 18/09/2012 22:19

I've been getting the odd one, and same as you Coldcuppacoffee, I also quite like them - I mean they are uncomfortable, but I like what they represent, that my body is getting ready. I am nearly 39 weeks.

I'm not quite ready to have the baby yet though I have to say!

FirstTimeMumma · 18/09/2012 22:33

Coldcuppa, thanks! I think it was simply just a case of doing to much, but i totally agree with liking the feeling, its a reassuring kind of pain! Our bodies were made for it after all so it seems like each one is sort of an accomplishment!

Terilou, yep think it just seemed very out of the blue and totally not what i expected a BH to feel like. At least i have a small insight into the contractions which are to come. And thankyou, i hope so too!

Smells, i took note of what time mine was at just incase it was the real deal even tho it was only one and kept checking the time every 5 mins and thinking oh another one should be here soon! so i totally get u on waiting about for things to happen!!

Polly, i wish i could agree with you but no, i am SO ready to have this baby lol Grin
