How long to wait before clamping cord?

When people talk about delayed cord clamping how long do they mean? The new guidelines say waiting 3-4 minutes - is that long enough? Doesn't seem very long to me!

If you have previously given birth, how soon was the cord clamped?

Until it stops pulsing! Then the placenta/cord will be as empty as possible and baby will have as much of their blood as they can.

I can't remember how long before the cord stopped pulsing though as that was DH's job, mine was cuddling the new baby Wink

Be careful, I opted for my DD's cord to be left a while before clamping, this contributed to her A O B incompatibility jaundice. There has been a thread on here before regarding this

I don't think that late cord clamping necessarily causes jaundice, but if they have A O B incompatibility, it can make things worse/contribute to it.
