I am 18weeks pregnant tomorrow and for the last week I have been feeling a lot of aches and pains in my tummy and for the last few days at the sides of my tummy and at the bottom. At work I have noticed that if I've been sat down for a while and I stand up the bottom of my tummy really aches- sometimes it's quite a sharp ache. I have also been weeing a lot more than I have done.(

I know I am probably being a total hypochondriac but is it normal to feel this aches and pains- is it just me stretching again and things squashing up?? Have I slept funny? Had thought it might be a bit early for that!

The reason I am so worried is that we have been trying for three years to conceive and had been told that we would need fertility treatment to conceive...and then it happened.. so still in frame of mind of this is too good to be true- something is bound to happen. This baby is so so precious to us and I can't bear to think something might be wrong.:(

Have had two scans so far- 12 week one and nuchal fold- the consultant at the second one said it looked like a healthy baby!

Please, please give me some advice on what it is.Otherwise I will be going to the Drs tomorrow sounding like a panicky mum! Blush

I'm 16 wks with my 2nd and am getting similar pains. I've put it down to stretching muscles and ligaments and think that it's normal, but if you're worried, go and see you're doctor tomorrow. It will put your mind at rest and help you to relax. HTH

You say "stretching again" - is this not your first pg? If it is a subsequent, I felt similar throughout my second pg. My MW said it was because the muscles etc were stretching quicker because they'd done it before and weren't as strong. I can remember thinking that it couldn't be right because it felt so different & uncomfortable - I had a beautiful healthy dd 2 months ago. Definately go talk to your dr or MW though to put your mind at rest. Hope everything's ok.

i suffered a lot of pain in the lower part of my bump all through my pg........i bought some (rather unsexy) support knickers from Mothercare and they really helped.
i went to our local A+E department and called my MW away from her supper to see me the first time it happened.....and she was fine about it. if you really are worried give your MW a call.

i had really bad stretching pains about the same time on my first pregnancy, it was so bad that i rememeber i was in tesco's and all i watned to do was go home and cry cos i thought something was up..like you i panicked as it was a fertility baby and was still in the 'its too good to be true mode'....

go to midwife if you feel like you need to, but from what i remember mine went after 2nd day, and when i asked about it on my 20week scan they said it was growinng/stretching pains.

that little tinker is 4 in june and healthy!
congratulations on your pregnancy by the way!!

If you are worried I would go to your local maternity unit. I did it with dd when she hadnt moved much and they were happy to reassure me. Monitor it etc.

I remember really awful pulling pains. I used to have to stop walking for a whils. It used to stop me in my tracks. See someone if it's really painful.

when you go to the Drs take a wee sample with you to just rule out a bladder infection.
Sounds like ligaments and muscles are expanding to accomodate a healthy fast growing little baby!
You get all kinds of strange aches and pains during pregnancy, all normal. HTH.

ronniemummy, how have you been feeling today - did you see your dr / mw? hope all is well.

ronniemummy · 20/03/2006 20:02

Thanks to everyone for your reassuring words of advice. I got really upset abou it yesterday! I did go to the Dr today who had a really hard prod and he said everything felt normal. Could possibly be a urine infection, but likely to be growing pains and aches!!! :)
