I'm 31 weeks pregnant. I've been sick every 10-15 minutes since about 8pm. :(

I can't keep water down and I've tried Gaviscon and Omeprazole, both came back up.

It seems everytime my stomach makes the tiniest bit of bile it brings it up.
My chest, in the centre where the great bone is really hurts now. :(

hello poor you. not in the slightest bit medically clued up but have you eaten anything suspect? or perhaps a virus. sip water regularly as you say. i would call out of hours doc in morning if no better. hope you are ok.

Titsalinabumsquash · 16/09/2012 03:45

Nothing suspect eaten at all. I was sipping water but it just comes straight back. I'll call ooh to see if I can get an antiemetic or something later.
I don't want to get dehydrated.

Get some dioralyte relief (make sure it's the relief, not normal dioralyte). Contains rice husk and stops me from being sick when I'm ill as it "soaks up" any nasties.

Sounds like you have a gastric bug, if you definitely know it's not a food poisoning possibility.

When I had rotavirus food poisoning, I thought I was dying after about 4h of it all coming out both ends and prostration in between - couldn't keep water or anything down - I phoned the OOH and they said that normally with adults they don't worry too much about dehydration for at least 12, if not 24h; but that might be different when pg.

Phone OOH doc or NHS Direct and see what they say - and one of the things I did was to keep dipping my tongue in a glass of flat dilute ginger ale, because it helped keep my mouth wet without actually swallowing the stuff.

Anyone else in the family ill?

I had similar when pregnant and the advice was just as it would be otherwise - try to stay dehydrated, unlikely to affect the baby, but be vigilant for movements.

Hope you're OK titsalina, not seen you around for ages and wondered how you were (have just NCed).

Got any ice pops?

Take care.

I'm 20 weeks pg, and had this last Sunday/Monday. It was horrific, sitting on the loo with a bucket Blush , sorry tmi. Started at 2am, and contacted midwife at 4pm when I still couldn't keep down water. They whipped me in to the prenatal ward and gave me iv fluids and an antiemetic as I'd only wee'd once that day and it was v dark, and my mouth was sticking together it was so dry. I'd call your midwife if you cant keep water down after 10-12hrs. Hope you feel better soon, it is horrific!! Get as much rest/sleep as you can too.

Despite having an iron stomach normally and never getting outwardly ill from a stomach bug, ive been seriously ill with d&v twice this pregnancy in the last 3wks! However i spoke to my gp on phone who told me because i was able to hold down water (and sounded well alert etc on phome) just to call back if goes on another 24hrs. In the meantime drink lots of really sugery drinks (like ribena). Im no expert but as you cant hold down fluids i wouls say call mw/ooh asap and get some attention... Better to get the expert advice than not!

I hope you feel better soon x

Gosh, lots of replies. Thanks.

I finally dropped off at about 6am and it seems to have stopped.

I'll brave some more water to see if it will stay down. Thank you again. Smile

Hope you're ok, being that pg is rubbish enough without being sick on top of it!

Thumbwitch · 16/09/2012 11:25

Phew! Well if it starts up again, you phone someone, doc or MW.
