What are these pains at 37 weeks, should I be prepared?!

Hi everyone,

Am 37 weeks today and last night for about 3 hours I had low down, shooting pains whilst trying to watch the last 3 episodes of Good Cop on catch up (very good by the way, so did help me forget it a bit!)

They then stopped and I slept OK but am now getting them again today, got them while on a bus on my own earlier and was praying my waters wouldn't break!

Are these your, normal, run of the mill last few week twinges do you think? They hurt when I get really sharp ones but are just a bit twingy most of the time, I also generally feel pressure down there.

I'm pretty sure they aren't contractions but as it's my first not really that sure tbh - should I be prepared for an early arrival or is this just how it feels to be this pregnant?

As you can see - I use 100 word when 10 would probably do!

TIA all :)

no real advice as though this is my second, I can remember nothing from last time (DS is 4), as my waters broke at 36+4 and I ended up being induced and then EMCS at 37w so it wasn't your normal labour...

But am also 37w today so wanted to say hi!

Could be the start..........exciting!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 15/09/2012 15:27

Could be the head engaging maybe?

Spice17 · 15/09/2012 15:35

and childishly laughs knowing we likely conceived on the same night :)

Charlotte hope so, though keep getting excited and then bloody terrified - DH out watching football and my baby showers supposed to be 2 weeks today!

Fish feels VERY engaged, hurts to lie on my back and lots of pressure, twinges when I walk. Almost like her head is rubbing my cervix (for want of a better phrase!)

Wiah I knew if this was the start, don't want to get hopes up....

It's impossible to know what's actually happening and how close you are but try and think that each pain is one closer to your baby arriving Smile

I think it could be the baby's head bouncing around on your cervix, or maybe even hitting a nerve? It does mean things are moving in the right direction, but not necessarily that labour is imminent (in my entirely unprofessional opinion Grin).

DD was 10 days late but I remember in the few days before labour started I got really sharp pains.

With this one I am getting what you describe already (33 weeks) especially after a shower or when I have been walking a lot. It could just be the head hitting a nerve.

This isnt very helpful at all, sorry.

Keep us updated! have you got your bags packed? You can have a post baby shower if needed. Smile

Spice17 · 15/09/2012 16:19

No, all comments very much appreciated guys, so thanks.

And have had my bag packed since about week 32, always have holiday clothes packed weeks before, inc toiletries bit of nutter like that Blush

Baby has been much more active last 2 days as well, does this happen or would she generally quieten down before coming do you think?
