Hi, this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place i am just desperate for advice.

I had unprotected sex on aug 22nd and took the morning after pill. On 4th september i got my period although it was very very heavy which is unusual for me.

This week i have been suffering with a distented (?) stomach and in a lot of pain. I went to a triage nurse to check it out- turns out i had a faint pregnancy line- twice.

The lovely nurse sent me up to our local epu where they did a scan and found nothing. They did a bhcg test and came back at 1.5. They sent me home to go back monday for another bhcg. Telling me i could either be pregnant in a normal early way, have been pregmant but suffered a miscarriage or be suffering from ectopic.Last night and today i have had lightt bleeding (sorry tmi)

Now i'm just waiting the longest 48 hours of my life...
I know no-one can tell me what is going on but some thoughts would be nice from anyone thats been in a similar situation.

Thanks in hope x x

Hi naya

Sorry I can't tell you whether you are or not but didn't want your post to go unanswered. I know you must be feeling very confused and waiting makes everything worse. Thinking of you.

philbee · 15/09/2012 14:59

Same here, I've not been through this but it sounds very hard and waiting for this kind of news is always anxious. Hope you can get it sorted out soon.

phoenixrose314 · 15/09/2012 17:33

Not been through it either. Thinking of you, hope it all turns out alright xx

Hi naya, it is really difficult to say and to be honest, as you probably already know, only time will reveal the answer. The urine tests indicate you have been producing hcg so you were pregnant. It could be a pregnancy that is now an early miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. The scan may not show much simply because it's so early. You'd only be a few weeks pregnant - scans tend to show at 6 weeks +. That Bhcg blood test is very low but they can't be read in isolation which is why they're bringing you back. If its higher next time it's more likely to be ectopic, if it's lower it is a miscarriage. The real risk is obviously with the possibility of it being ectopic if it continues to grow it means potential harm to your health which is why they'll keep an eye on you. However about half of ectopics resolve without intervention which may well be the case for you.

Key things to look out for are abdo pain (that gets worse), shoulder tip pain, diarrhoea and vomiting. If you get any of these, go to A&E immediately. If not, I would suggest you take it very easy - take painkillers, hot water bottle and curl up on the sofa. I'm sorry you're going through this but hopefully what I've said helps you understand a bit better?

Hi, thanks for the replies- kind of what i figured. I have stomach cramps but nothing to painful all weekend and continuous light bleeding. And delightfully today i have woken up with the flu :(
I guess its just a waiting game- not hugely helped by my cousin announcing she was pregnant yesterday, i'm really pleased for her but just a bad weekenf to hear it i think.
I've done a lot of reading and i think i'm clearer but thank-you have a little faith- was good to see it in one place and in my language. X

You're welcome. Sorry to hear about the pregnancy announcement, what awful timing! I hope you feel better fro, the flu (and all of this) soon.

Naya22 · 16/09/2012 11:01

Not going to lie, it was hard to smile and say congratulations but i'm trying to take the line of what will be will be. X

This is probably going to be just a rant now- i'm still no further forward in an answer. I waited all weekend went in at 9 today- told to phone at one. Results not back please phone at half one. Phone at half one- results were inconclusive so sending them back for more testing phone back at three. Phone at three- results not back phone at 5. Phone at 5 no-one available but they can tell me bhcg levels are now under 1, a nurse will phone to explain more within half an hour. At half 7 i caved and phoned them back- yes levels have gone down but not enough that they are happy to say whats gone on or what os going on now.
Can i please go in weds for more tests.

I'm trying not to be rude to them but i really feel i'm just being passed around.

What to do?! X

Hi, really sorry to hear you're going through this. I had an ectopic diagnosed in early pregnancy a few years ago. I had to go for hcg tests every 48 hrs for about 2 weeks before I got far along enough to scan. My levels were going up but not enough - but they couldn't tell if it was normal or not. Hopefully yours will resolve as a miscarriage this time - bur just wanted to let you know that repeated tests are normal, and also that while mine was ectopic I've had a good outcome in the end. I was treated with methotrexate - which wasn't pleasant as I had quite a bit of pain and bleeding, and lots more blood tests to check it was working. But I have since had a lovely daughter and am now at 32 weeks with my second. Good luck. I hope you get an answer soon and can soon move on.

Naya22 · 18/09/2012 12:40

Thanks bryzoan- it seems strange to be hoping for a miscarriage but i know what you mean. I know they are normal and i appreciate what they are doing is difficult but i feel someone should be able to take the time to explain what is going on rather than a hurried phone call. I've got more info from here than three trips to the hospital! X

HaveALittleFaith · 18/09/2012 12:43

It's awful that the hospital didn't really give you much info. Anything. I explained to you I know from MN! I hope the next test results give a clear answer and hope things begin to resolve for you.

Naya22 · 19/09/2012 20:23

Well all was confirmed today :( but thank you for your support x

HaveALittleFaith · 19/09/2012 20:30

All was confirmed? So the physical is over for you? I'm sorry you had to go through this and hope you can start to move on now. Take care of yourself.

Naya22 · 20/09/2012 23:22

Yes, its all over. Thank you so much for your support. X x
