My friend just had a baby boy and I'm wondering what you all got as gifts when your DC were born that you loved? She lives in America so needs to be postable!!! I am pregnant with DC1 so have no real idea yet!! Any suggestions would be great! Also anything nice for mum?

I'm expecting my first but someone once suggested sophie the giraffe as a good pressie. It's for teething so won't be needed for a while. I bought it for 2 of my friends and they were very grateful. Not so much at first but got a message when baby was 5months thanking me.

Very light to post too.

You can get one in a gift box too.

I heard from someone recently that Sophie is quite hard to get hold of in the States so that might be a very good present!

Muslins are always helpful, baby towels (with hoods) have always gone down well as a present from us, or some clothes for size 3-6 months. I've also given people the Lamaze hand and feet finders which are good for when baby is a little older (and also very small to post!).

Newborns don't actually need much so I always think presents for when the baby is a little older are helpful.

One of my fave gifts was a sleeping bag cos we hadn't bought any. Sophie is fab. You could look on interflora. Send flowers with a keepsake. Someone did that for us with a Beatrix potter mug in a tin.

Seconding Sleepdodger's recommendation for muslins from Aden + Anais. My sister had some of their really large ones as a gift and they were great, can be used for a multitude of tasks (blanket, wrap, sunshade etc.) and were very soft. Also light to post.

Thanks everyone, I settled on sophie the giraffe and a Ewan the sheep cuddly toy that lights up and makes sounds similar to those in the womb! Baby land is scary! Very expensive too! May also get some muslins. Thanks for your help Smile

Forgot about Ewen! Great gift. We got it for someone for pressie after it was recommended as a good pressie.

They'll love them!
