Can anyone recommend a private cord blood/tissue banking company?

Looking for people with experience of this and also some clearer idea of what happens at birth. Very keen to do this as have some spare money and a scientist friend has been telling me how research in the area is coming on leaps and bounds.

I have sent off for brochures of the main companies but they all seem much of a muchness to me so after some real life experience.

Have you used a cord blood/tissue banking service?

What ACTUALLY happens at birth (ie at what point does the phlebotomist take what they need?)

How easy/uncomplicated was your experience?

Any information you have really would be much appreciated as am slightly overwhelmed by all the info in their packs and each one of them seems to sell themselves very well.

Hi I looked into this too.
It appears it's not really just 'cord blood' it's actually blood that should be going into the baby. And as I wouldn't knowingly take blood from a newborn I decided against it.
Just my opinion, though, on the research I did online.

Ditto milktraylady - I wouldn't do cord blood banking as it's the baby's blood not just hanging around doing nothing and being wasted (unless you clamp the cord before it has finished pulsing).

Good article here on cord blood.

Thanks for posting that link truth am now going to do all I can to ensure my babies cord is not clamped too early!

To be honest I'm more interested in cord tissue that the blood and that does get thrown away after

Actually you can delay clamping AND donate or bank your cord blood so no reason not to do both!

I'm petitioning the government to roll out cord donation nationwide, I was hoping you might like to sign it? bit.ly/19BII0S
