What are the risks of a baby born with a big tummy from GD? Is it that he'll just have a big tummy or are there other implications?

The big tummy shows it is being exposed to high blood sugar, this stimulates baby to produce more insulin to control the sugar which lays down more fat, hence the big tummy. After birth when the placental blood supply is cut off baby will still have high insulin and could have a hypo. Worst case is brain damage or diabetic coma but this is incredibly rare.

Also, mum's high blood sugar, as evidenced by the foetal tummy size, risks early placental failure. Hence the higher still birth rate.

These are the main risks of GD.
